"Tell me more." He pleaded.
Amelia laughed. "I can't think of anything else!"
"There's not a single detail you left out?"
"No!"
"Alright. But please, I can't stop listening."
"Okay then." She smiled. "I guess I could tell you more about the ship. It was so beautiful, Fred. You would have loved it."
"Of course I would've." He beamed at her and tucked a small piece of hair behind her ear. The gesture was strangely intimate, even for two people who grew up together. "I'm so sorry I wasn't there."
"I know. It's okay."
"It's not. I'll never disappoint you again. I promise."
She smiled sadly. "I don't want you to do that. I want you to follow your dreams. They're important too."
"Okay. From now on we support each other's dreams. Pinky promise?" He teased as he held out his little finger.
Amelia chuckled and hooked her pinky in his. "You're an idiot Fred Weasley."
"An adorable, totally loveable idiot." He said.
"I guess so."
"You love me."
"Only a little bit!"
"A little bit of love from Amelia Merlin is worth every other person in the world loving me with their entire being." He said unapologetically.
She looked at him almost stunned. "That's rather poetic for you."
"I've been practicing. Heard girls like that kind of shit."
"They do."
"Good."
"So there's a Hogsmeade trip tomorrow."
"Want to go with me?" he smiled cheekily and Amelia threw a piece of parchment at him.
"Of course I want to go with you."
"Alright. It's a date." He winked and Amelia rolled her eyes. But a small smile crept up on her face because secretly, she was quite pleased.
The next day they walked down to the Entrance Hall together, all done up in scarves and mittens due to the snow that was persistently falling. They walked down to the village laughing the entire way down (Fred couldn't keep it together whenever Amelia started telling him about Don).
"That kid sounds like a gem." He wiped a tear from his eye.
"Yeah, and you're almost as charming as he is." She teased.
Fred gave her a warning look and then before she knew it he had slung her over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. She shrieked in laughter as he ran her into a small tea shop and asked for a very large table for one. The lady laughed and led them to a table, Fred kept knocking her feet into people's heads and apologizing for the 'misunderstanding' as he called it. Finally he set her down and Amelia got a look at something that wasn't the floor.
The whole thing looked like one giant doily. Just by taking a look around the tea shop Amelia knew Fred had taken her there to fill some sort of ironic need. He knew her well enough to know that a place like this could only be laughed at.
"Do you like it?" He beamed.
She shook her head, "I absolutely hate it."
"So it's perfect then?"
Amelia laughed, a little too loudly considering the looks people gave her. "Yes Fred. It's perfect."
"Good! What shall we have first then? Petit fors? Macaroons? Creme brule?"
She couldn't stop laughing at the ridiculously posh way he said everything. "Fred you have to stop making me laugh! Everyone hates us already because of the feet to face 'misunderstanding'!"
His face went comically serious and he reached out a hand to her, placing it on her arm. "Amy, I will never stop making you laugh."
She matched his serious face. "Then I will never stop telling you to shut up."
He laughed, so whole heartedly, Amelia noticed no one in the tea shop gave them a dirty look for it. As she looked around her heart melted, for sitting at the window table, was Cedric Diggory and Cho Chang.
"Shit." She whispered.
"What is it?"
"Cedric and Cho, four o clock!"
"Ew. They're kissing."
"Can we go?"
"Yeah of course! This place sucks anyways." (That one got some dirty looks from other customers)
"Thank you."
They walked outside in the snow and she felt an arm slide around her waist. She smiled and pressed herself gently against Fred. They walked in silence for a while, enjoying the crisp air. A dark haired woman walked passed, her eyes trained on the ground. Amelia didn't recognize her but Fred did.
"Sapana!" He beamed. "How are you?"
Her head snapped up and her startling green eyes widened. "Fred? Gods I almost didn't recognize you! Haven't seen you in forever!"
"Yeah it's been a while." They embraced and Amelia stared and kicked at the snow. She didn't like Sapana after their last incident. The beach was fun, but the giant lizard attack and kind of dying hadn't been so fun.
"You two should come by! I've got so many new jars that you would-"
"No thanks." Amelia shot.
Sapana looked a tad taken aback. "Oh. Okay that's alright-"
"We should get going. It was nice seeing you." She took Fred's hand and strode away, leaving the dark-haired beauty alone in the snow.
"You know it wasn't her fault right? What happened on that beach?"
"Then whose fault is it?"
"I dunno."
"Well I blame her. I don't get why you-"
Fred stopped and took both her hands in his. "You know I hated that day right? That was the worst day of my life. I watched you die that day. It was the absolute fucking worst."
There are some moments when words don't fully capture anything you feel. She didn't know what to say. So she slid her arms around his neck and pulled him close. His familiar scent, the one she'd grown up with, filled her nose. His familiar arms wrapped around her and brought her to his familiar chest.
She knew every detail of the boy holding her, every flaw and every adornment of who he was.
Amelia whispered in his ear, "I love you Fred Weasley."
She felt him smile, "I love you Amelia Merlin."
