Amelia was enjoying her freedom. She had taken Jeremy's advice and decided to thrive in the ordinary. She studied and did homework and gossiped with her girls and flirted with boys. She put herself first and took control over her own life. And she was happy.

Amelia had found this new confidence. After everything that happened with Akkedis she knew she could handle fear and danger. She knew she was brave. Amelia also knew how to handle things when it all went to shit. Her dream, her one hope had been ripped from her in the most brutal way.

But that hadn't ruined her. She was broken and she didn't need saving. Amelia Merlin knew exactly who she was and what she was capable of. And that had more value to her than the prospect of Kalishterya and all it offered.

History of Magic had always been the most boring class imaginable but on a beautiful sunny day it was especially awful. Amelia was practically falling asleep when Oliver nudged her.

"What?" She whispered lazily.

He leaned in with a small smile on his face. "Sometimes, when I'm so bored I think it might kill me, I have this little game that I do."

She sat up, immediately intrigued. "Tell me."

"Well," he began to explain. "You see that pot on his desk?" Amelia nodded. "I keep enchanting it so the dirt keeps rising and the goal is to get it as full as I can without everything spilling over."

"Sounds exhilarating." Amelia teased.

"Oh it is." Oliver replied. "This is more intense than probably anything you've experienced."

"Is that so?" She laughed lightly and raised her eyebrows.

His eyes traced down to somewhere by the tip of her nose then back to her eyes as he said, "don't you believe me?"

"Well I think I'd have to try it for myself."

Oliver wrinkled his nose. "Uhmmm I don't know if you're exactly - how do I put this - experienced? It takes a certain amount of skill and precision."

"Trust me, darling." She smiled. "I can handle it."

He leaned back in his seat and crossed his arms, eager to see the situation play out, he nodded her towards the pot. Amelia got out her wand and pointed it at the plant. Using her Druid powers the dirt began to rise.

"Stop!" Oliver half whispered half laughed. "It's gonna go everywhere!"

He shoved her arm slightly but the small jump made the dirt explode all over the table. Only three students looked up from their desk and Professor Binns didn't even notice. Oliver clamped a hand over his mouth to stop his laugh from bursting out and Amelia had to do the same.

"Amy!" He scolded jokingly. "You are an abomination!"

"You bumped me! It's not my fault!" She laughed. For some reason they were both whispering with their heads together, trying not to get noticed even though it was History of Magic and nobody would notice if a bomb went off.

"Okay. New challenge." He put his hand on her arm and leaned in even closer. "If you can get everyone's desk floating a foot in the air without them noticing, I will give you the best surprise of your life."

Amelia looked at him for a hard moment, their faces were maybe five inches away from each other. "You better start thinking of something good darling. Because I got this."

Oliver grinned slightly and gave a small nod, encouraging her. Amelia bit her lip in concentration as she slowly started to raise the tables and chairs off the ground. One inch, then three, four, five and they were nearly half a foot off the ground. She took a deep breath as she pushed them to seven, eight and nine inches off the ground. Just as she was going for the full foot, Oliver leaned in and whispered in her ear.

"I love you Amelia Merlin."

She gasped slightly and the desks shot up three feet. The momentum woke the entire class up and Lavender's shriek broke her concentration sending them all crashing to the floor. Oliver burst out laughing, he clutched his sides as his bewildered classmates stared at him.

Wiping a tear away he said, "I knew that would get you! I knew I could make you mess up! Oh god that was too funny, Amy!"

She tried to keep a straight face but it was no good. Amelia burst out laughing with him as everyone interrogated them to find out what happened. They each ignored them and just laughed with each other.

"You still owe me a surprise. I got them past a foot." She said through gasps of air.

"Alright alright. But I'm not telling you when it'll happen. Could be years from now!" He chuckled.

Professor Binns looked up from his notes. "Class is over." He said wheezily. He hadn't noticed any of the commotion therefore nobody got in trouble which was lucky.

As Amelia left with all her stuff in arms, Oliver was right behind her.

"So about-" he started.

"Amy!" A tall red headed boy exclaimed as she emerged from the classroom. "My love! How are you?"

She beamed at Fred. "I'm fantastic! I have to tell you about the hilarious class we just had. Oliver and me-" she turned to see him but he had disappeared. Far away she saw a dark haired boy disappearing into the crowds.

"You and Oliver?" Fred pressed and Amelia snapped back to reality.

With a shake of her head she continued. "Yes! Right. Um yeah so it was hilarious. We had these little competitions," and she proceeded to tell Fred all about her class.

"Sounds like fun!" He enthused.

"It really was. I mean the class was so boring but Oliver just turned into the most wonderful thing ever!"

"Wow." He said dryly and Amelia looked at him. She could feel the passive aggressive energy flowing from him in a waterfall of annoyance.

"What?" She asked.

"What'd you mean, what?"

"What are you so grumpy about?"

"I'm not grumpy." He lied.

"It kinda seems like it. Are you mad about me and Oliver having fun?" She raised an eyebrow and tugged at her necklace.

"Of course not. I don't care which guys you go for." He replied loftily.

"That's a lie."

Fred chuckled. "Okay fair. Though I suppose Oliver's better than Cedric."

Amelia huffed. "Right well next time I need approval before dating someone I'll come straight to you." She said sarcastically.

"Oh come on Amy! Don't be like that!" Fred called after her as she walked away.

It pissed Amelia off so much when he tried to be all jealous. Fred could be so goddamn annoying sometimes, he literally drove her crazy. Sometimes they got along so well without arguing once, other times she couldn't stand him for five minutes. Everything was always so intense with Fred. But the fact that he made her so crazy was partly why Amelia loved him so much.
