A/n hi lovely people! If anyone has something they would like me to read, or to help you advertise on my story, please comment or message me! I'd love to read anything!
The morning Fred and George came to visit in the hospital wing was definitely interesting. They brought her chocolates and sweets of all sorts.
"I was talking to Harry about what happened." Said George as he sat on the foot of her bed.
"Yeah?" Amelia tried to speak through a mouthful of chocolate.
"He says you punched You Know Who in the face!" He laughed.
Amelia shoved more chocolate in her mouth before saying, "Proudest moment of my life."
"Yeah I seriously doubt you can top that." He patted her knee affectionally and then let off a fire cracker, which got him promptly kicked out of the hospital wing, but it did make Amelia laugh, so George didn't mind.
"You've been awful quiet." Amelia poked Fred gently.
He shrugged and cast his eyes downwards.
"What's with this?" She gestured to his moping face.
"I don't like this, Amelia."
"Don't like what?" She said, utterly confused.
"Seeing you in the hospital wing. It's not a good thing."
"Better than seeing me in a coffin." Said Amelia, rolling her eyes.
"Amy!" Fred protested.
"No, listen Fred. I'm alive, and that's not something I take for granted. I nearly died down there." She said sharply.
"You listen, Amelia." Fred glared. "I watched you die last year. In the sand with that damn lizard chasing us. I watched you die. And I'll never see that again. You should never be in a situation where I might have to see your body in a fucking coffin." His voice trembled and his shoulders shook.
"Fred," Amelia said softly. "I'm sorry, I forgot. Look, I'm not going anywhere. It's going to take more than Lord Voldemort to finish me off." She laughed lightly.
"Why do you have to say his name?" Fred whined.
She shrugged. "Doesn't scare me."
"Nothing really does." Fred laughed and sat down beside her on the bed. There was barely any room with the two of them side by side. Amelia nearly fell off several times, and Fred actually did once.
After sometime, the Gryffindor second years stormed the hospital wing, Madame Pomfrey nearly had a heart attack but they ignored her.
"Amelia!" Lavender squealed and jumped on her. Parvati hugged her and soon everyone was in one big embrace.
"Glad you're not dead, Merlin." Seamus said graciously.
"Thanks." she laughed and looked over to see Cedric had come in to see her, bringing a bouquet of sweet peas. "You are the sweetest boy." She smiled and while surrounded by friends, she was happy. But soon everyone left to go get ready for the end of year feast and Amelia was alone.
"Hey." The unmistakable dark curls and blue eyes of Oliver Rivers walked in to the hospital wing.
"Hi." Amelia smiled at him and he sat down by her, like Fred had done before. "This is a bit squishy, you know."
"What? I've got all the space in the world!" Oliver grinned and dramatically tossed a leg over her. Laughing Amelia shoved it off.
"You're so annoying."
"I'm an angel." Oliver scoffed.
"Maybe." Said Amelia with a small smile.
Then Oliver suddenly got rather serious. "You don't have to if you don't want to, but do you want to talk about what happened down there?"
Amelia felt her throat tighten and she blinked furiously. "The basilisk nearly killed me." She whispered.
"That must have been scary." Oliver put his arm around her and she rested her head on his chest, she could hear is heart beating.
"It wasn't scary." Her voice was flat. "I've been scared before but that wasn't it. This - this was something else entirely."
She sat up and looked Oliver in the eyes. "I wasn't scared at all. That's what scares me now. I didn't care that I was dying, I almost didn't even try. I was going to let it happen."
"But you didn't."
"No but I nearly did-" Amelia rushed her words.
"But you didn't." Oliver said firmly and took Amelia's hand in his own, he regarded it for a minute before speaking again. "You're still here. Which means you haven't given up. And you're still fighting."
"I don't even know what I'm fighting." She stared at their entwined hands as well.
Oliver chuckled slightly. "None of us do, Amelia. It just an uphill battle for everyone of us. I think people call that life."
Amelia shook her head. "No, this is bigger than that. I don't think this is just about my life. I think there's so much more to it."
"To what?"
"I don't even know. It's like I'm apart of this game that I don't even know the rules to." Said Amelia, exasperated.
"Have you ever tried?"
"What?" She sounded offended but Oliver wasn't bothered by that.
"I mean, maybe the answers have been in front of you but you don't want to figure it out. Because that would mean you have to start playing." He explained and Amelia was silent.
After a while she said, "I'm already playing."
"But are you winning?" He gently replied.
"You're right. I've got to do something." She lay back down with her head on his chest.
Oliver kissed the top of her head. "That's my girl." He whispered. "I brought you something." He reached over the side of the bed and grabbed a bag that was full of mini quaffles.
"Oh my goodness," she burst into laughter. "Please, please tell me those are the property of the Hogwarts Nine Quaffle Juggling Team."
"They actually call themselves the Juggling Squad now. But yes, you are correct." he was trying so hard not to laugh. "Amelia Merlin, would you do the honours?" She grinned and threw them in the air, the miniature red balls flew in circles above their heads. The pair lay down and watched them. "So the recruiter is going to be coming by later today to assess you for the big leagues. Think you're ready for that?"
"I was literally born ready for that."
"Okay good, because I sort of bragged about you a lot."
Amelia and Oliver fell asleep on that hospital bed, and though the end of year feast had begun, not a soul in the castle had the heart to wake them.
A/n sorry this is a bit shorter than usual! Hope you still enjoyed it! Let me know what you think is going to happen next year or over the summer in the comments! I adore reading them!
