The trees went by so quickly it looked like someone had smudged the paint. Amelia was sitting with her head pressed against the cool glass.
She didn't want to think about the fact she was going home for Christmas. About being able to understand snakes talking (which was a new one for her), or about the dreams of killing Collin Creevey. She didn't want to consider that she may be the person responsible for the petrifying at the school. Amelia hated the idea she was so closely related to the evil that plagued her home.
Her mind wandered back to the old family legends. Maybe she was descended from Zradit instead of Kaiyo the Majka. It made sense, she always had such terrifying dreams, and she got so angry sometimes. Maybe she was just meant to be this way.
Amelia knew Syltherin had been able to talk to snakes, and now it seemed so could she, and Harry Potter. But as far as she knew, Harry wasn't having dreams about killing anyone.
Did that make her the Heir of Slytherin?
There were too many questions racing through her mind, so Amelia decided to make a list before she exploded. She shuffled around until she found parchment and ink.
Why do I have all these dreams?
What do the dreams mean?
Am I the heir of Slytherin?
Why have I only been able to understand snakes now? Why not before?
Why did Dumbledore stop giving me those lessons he promised last year?
Am I descended from Zradit?
What is that wolf all about?
And lastly, the question she vowed to answer last year,
Who is Akkedis?
For the rest of the trip she mindlessly doodled on the side of her parchment. Her drawings this year were much better then last. And Amelia was pleased with how they turned out.
The Hogwarts Express lurched to a halt and Amelia got up with a sigh. Everyone around her was excited about getting home, but the mere concept of being in that big, lonely house with her mother, made Amelia want to hurl.
She was the last person off the train, and the platform was still full of people hugging and kissing their children. A few mothers were crying and younger siblings were leaping around.
Amelia spotted the familiar black hat of her mother, and walked slowly over to her. Dragging Morris and her luggage, she weaved through the happy crowd.
"Hello mother!" She tried to smile but it came out as a grimace.
"What on earth took you so long?" Her voice was shrill and uninviting.
Amelia sighed. "I was helping other people first." Which wasn't even a lie actually.
"Well whatever the excuse, we really must get on." They made their way to the car she had rented and the ride home was long, and awful.
