"So what exactly do you have planned for today?" Amelia bounced as Fred led her into the kitchen where the rest of his family was.
"Well, I thought we could go down to the pond. Because I know how much you love water. And Mum packed us some food already. We can play some Quidditch down there and swim and climb trees and then we have to come back by six because Mum is making you a fancy dinner and we have people coming over." They weaved through the many people, who all wished her a Happy Birthday, to get to Fred's room, which was just up the stairs.
"Who do you have coming over?" Amelia wondered as they walked up the steps.
"Let's see, Luna Lovegood, she and Ginny became good friends this year because their both the same age, and she lives just over the hill. Cedric Diggory said he'd come, his dad and mine are friends from work. I think Mum invited some of your school friends, and also your brother is coming." They reached Fred's room, where George was still asleep on the bottom bunk.
"That's so sweet!" Amelia was truly excited for the day ahead, it sounded like it was going to be great. She wanted to know which of her school friends were coming, but she doubted Fred knew the answer to that question. Amelia sat on George's bed, leaned in so her face was an inch away from his and cooed, "Wake up George!"
His eyes fluttered open and he sat up in shock, from Amelia being so close, and banged his head on the top bunk. "Ow!" George rubbed his forehead as his brother dissolved into laughter.
The majority of the day was spent at the pond, splashing each other, swimming and just generally goofing around. Even Percy joined in, which was so uncomfortable at first, the twins could only take it in very small doses.
They headed back to the Burrow at around four, because they had to shower and they promised Molly they'd be home for dinner. While in the bathroom, Amelia observed herself in the mirror.
Blue eyes, with a little gold ring around the pupil.
Dirty blonde hair, bleached by the sun.
Freckles.
Face shaped like a fairy's.
Scrawny.
She shrugged, feeling content with her appearance and walked out. As Amelia descended the stairs, everyone was waiting and they all sang happy birthday to her while she arrived.
Amelia radiated happiness. Parvati and Padma were there, Cedric, Dean, Luna Lovegood (which was weird but whatever) Hermione, all the Weasley's and standing in the corner, she saw a familiar dark curly head.
"Oliver!" She strode over and embraced him.
"Happy birthday Amelia!" He whispered in her ear.
"Time to make a wish!" Mrs Weasley brought over a huge cake, it was chocolate. Amelia was an easy girl to please, she loved balloons and chocolate cake and that was all she needed for a birthday.
She breathed in deeply, and blew the candles out.
"What did you wish for?" Lavender squealed and grabbed her arm.
"Can't say!" Truth was, Amelia didn't wish for anything. She was totally happy in the moment and nothing could have been better. They ate cake before dinner (another birthday thing Amelia liked), then started in on the roast chicken, salad and fresh bread.
Amelia was so happy to be among friends. She sat between Fred and George with Parvati across from her. Her stomach ached from laughing so much by the end of the dinner.
"I do believe it's presents time!" Mrs Weasley clapped her hands together and brought out a box wrapped in blue. Amelia tore the paper off and opened it. It was a set of drawing pencils, they were every colour you could think of. And there was charcoal and graphite pencils with all different softness.
"Oh Mrs Weasley! These are amazing! Thank you so much." She hugged the women who she honestly loved more than her own mother.
The rest of the gifts were also lovely. Dean got her mittens, Hermione had bought her a Herbology book with wonderful illustrations, Lavender got her a new set of quills, Parvati and Padma got her a sketchbook, Oliver got her a silver necklace with a pearl pendant (he said it was a family thing and since he had all brothers no one could wear it) and the Weasley siblings had all made a giant, beautiful photo album of all their memories together.
"These are really fantastic! Thank you so much everyone!" The end of the night came too quickly. After hanging out in the yard and talking for hours everyone went home, and Amelia nearly cried, Lavender definitely cried.
Fred offered to walk her home and help carry her presents. The yellow grass was kissed with gold as the sun set in the sky.
"Thanks for such a wonderful birthday." Amelia smiled at him.
"Yeah it was so much work! You're never getting one like that again!" He grinned and she playfully shoved him. "I mean it! Way too much effort."
She rolled her eyes. "I'm being serious. I loved the balloons, that was awesome. There must have been like two hundred of them and it was so great."
"Well I'm glad you like it." They reached her house and Fred helped drop the gifts off in her room. Just before he turned to leave Amelia grabbed his arm.
"Fred?"
"Yes love?"
"Can you do something for me?" She asked hesitantly, what she was about to ask was so stupid but Amelia felt like it was necessary.
"Anything!" Fred waved a hand around.
"It's just something Lavender was going on about when I was talking to her and it really made me think. And you don't have to if you don't want to but it would actually mean a lot to me-"
"Just get to the point!" Fred cut off her rambling.
Amelia fidgeted slightly. "Well, I've never properly kissed anyone and I don't want to the first time to be with some idiot so I was just thinking, like just as friends I don't like you in that way at all-"
She was cut off again by Fred pressing a finger to her lips. Then he cupped her face in both his hands, and brown eyes met blue, and lips met lips.
The kiss lasted only a moment.
It was gentle and sweet, and Amelia was struck by how soft Fred's lips were. How lovely his hands felt on her face.
"Happy birthday Amelia." He smiled at her and his palms dropped from her cheeks.
"Bye Fred!" She called after him as he made his way down the stairs and out the door.
Amelia got ready for bed and curled up under the blankets on her bed. She couldn't stop the smile that kept creeping back, even though her face hurt from so much smiling.
"Happy birthday." Amelia whispered to herself before falling asleep.
