Chapter 2
(Bailey's POV)
The next day I got dressed in leggings and a baggy sweater. The weather was a bit chilly this morning. I slid my phone in the back pocket, closing the door behind me.
Today I wanted to explore the campus before classes start tomorrow. I walked down two flights of stairs before reaching the ground floor. Many students were walking the grounds outside. The light breeze blew my hair back as I began to move.
I first spotted the beautiful grass area in between different dorm halls. People were scattered all around, minding their own businesses and enjoying the day. Some were laying down on blankets, and listening to music. It was so peaceful.
I continued to walk on the path that wrapped around the grassy land. I looked at some of the buildings. It wouldn't hurt to have a look inside, I decided. I drew back the door of a brick building. It looked to be a gym. Glass walls made it easy to see inside. Men were lifting weights and doing push-ups, while some girls ran on treadmills.
My wandering eyes fell upon a group of guys. Each one was lifting heavy weights. Sweat trickled down their foreheads. A brown haired boy looked up to meet my gaze, and winked. I looked down to my feet, blushing. I shuffled around before lifting my head back up. I breathed out, trying to even the color of my cheeks.
After a couple of minutes of looking around that building, I came back to the gym area. This time, I noticed a familiar face.
The girl who introduced herself as Aubrey, was running on a treadmill. She soon stopped, and hopped off the machine, taking a swig from her water bottle. Her eyes met mine and she smiled, making her way over to me.
"Hey, Bailey, right?" She greeted.
"Yeah, hi," I smiled back.
"Are you here to work out, too?" She inquired.
Her long, dark brown hair that was held in a ponytail flung back as she twisted her head around to point to the many exercise machines.
I shook my head, "No, I was just looking around. Do you come here often?"
"Yeah, it's a great workout. I'm actually getting in shape for the volleyball team. Try-outs are this Friday."
Aubrey paused, taking another well earned sip of water. "You should try out too, Bailey."
I thought for a moment, considering the idea. I shrugged, "Maybe."
"Have you ever been on a team for a college before?"
I replied, "Yes. I was attending a different college last year before switching to Manchester. I was on the softball team."
Aubrey's eyebrows furrowed together in confusion. She bent over, setting her water bottle to the ground before rising again.
"You're not a freshman?" She asked.
I shook my head. "I'm a sophomore. What about you?"
"Sophomore as well, but I just assumed since you're new that you were a freshman."
I nodded as my eyes flickered to the side of her body. The same brown haired boy winked at me again. I became a bit uncomfortable in his gaze. Once he saw me look at him again, his forearm muscles flexed.
It looked like he was going to come over to talk to me. I quickly excused myself from the conversation with Aubrey, and told her I would see her soon.
I swiftly turned and exited the building, not wanting to speak to the man that startled me to the bone.
