Sorry for the late chapter.
Chapter 33
Bailey's POV
I wake up in the morning, immediately noticing Niall's absence in my bed. I roll over, rubbing my eyes to adjust to the new light.
I still have one more day to get through until he comes home tomorrow. As selfish as it sounds, I hope he doesn't like the team. I don't want him to leave me.
I pick up my phone from the bedside table, checking the time that is nine fifteen. On the screen is a notification that I have a text. My pulse increases when I read that it's from Niall. Quickly, I type in my passcode to unlock the phone.
"Morning, gorgeous."
My heart swells at the message.
"Morning, handsome :)"
I set the phone aside, deciding what I should do today. From the view out my small window, it looks to be a nice winter day. The sun is out and no snow scatters the ground.
I settle for going on a run. I get out of the warm confines of the bed to get dressed in my workout clothes. They are rarely used. I don't prefer to go to the gym, but Aubrey occasionally drags me along.
Sneakers are laced on my feet before I leave the room. A few people are bustling around the halls, some waving to me and saying hello.
The cold air hits me hard when I open the doors. So much for thinking it was a nice day. I stretch my legs a bit before taking off down the road. Earbuds are placed in my ears, blasting music from my phone straight to my eardrums. My arms sway from side to side, picking up my pace. I turn some corners here and there, humming along to the music.
No horns or sirens can be heard while the song plays, peacefully leaving me in my own little world. I listen to a band Niall had recommended to me a while ago.
Light fog surrounds me, making it a bit hard at times to see where I'm going. I slow down at one stop sign, waiting for vehicles to drive by. After a few moments, I'm free to go again.
The song ends and I wait a short couple of seconds in silence. I step into the road, beginning to run again. I get halfway across the black street before an ear-splitting shriek yells just as the next song begins. I think they said, "Watch out!"
Watch out? Watch out for what? My head turns, looking for the reason why I should watch out.
That's when my heart stops beating and I let out the loudest scream of pure terror. A car is racing towards me, lights blinding my vision. My arms lash out to cover my head. Within a second, a body is crushed upon mine, shielding me from the danger that lies ahead, sure to be killing both of us.
My scream doesn't stop, and we're both frozen to the ground. But not dead. I bravely peak up to see why I'm not being slammed into the front of the vehicle. The car has fumes boiling out of the trunk. It's up against the tree that's bent from the force. I'm shaking like mad when my mystery hero hovers his head in front of my buzzing one.
"Bailey, shit. Thank God you're alive."
Though my head is pounding and my vision is swervy, I can make out who the speaker is.
"B-Brandon?" I choke out in a short breath.
"Yes, it's me. Are you okay? Are you hurt?"
He reaches out to touch my shoulders, arms, and hands. Then my head and face.
"I-I'm fine," I whisper, still shaking like crazy.
I look across the street to see my phone and earbuds lying on the ground in a pile.
