Chapter 29

Bailey's POV

"Be safe driving home, okay?" Mum tells us with a concerned look.

Niall and I nod in response. My father gives me a warm hug, promising that he will visit me. He then turns to Niall and shakes his hand.

"Nice meeting you, son."

"You, too, Mr. Thomas."

My breath becomes shaky as Danny swoops me into his arms. I'm saying goodbye to him yet once again. I feel as if I am about to burst into tears, who knows when I will see him again.

"Promise me that you will text me when you have the chance," I gulp.

"I promise," he swears, looking down on me.

Niall softly takes my hand and I bend down to retrieve my suitcase. We step outside just as my mother calls out a final goodbye. Niall's car lights up by the click of a button. He takes my bags and puts them in the trunk. I climb into the range rover as he does so.

I'm silent the whole way. The radio plays quietly in the background. I stare out the window, watching the world go by. Snow is beginning to fall, covering the trees and road. Niall's hand rests on my leg. He turns his head over to look at me every so often though he doesn't say anything.

"You'll see him soon," Niall speaks up, referring to Danny.

I want to say "You don't know that," or "How can you be so sure? Soldiers die every day," but no words escape me.

"Babe, we're here," a soft voice wakes me.

I lightly groan, not wanting to open my eyes and face another semester of uni. Lips press to my own after a moment.

"Come on, Bailey," he chuckles, "I know you're awake."

I extend my arms to push Niall off of me. He rolls back on to the driver's side and I slowly open my eyelids. It takes me a minute to adjust to the light.

"There's those gorgeous eyes," he grins triumphantly.

"Shut up," I moan.

Niall laughs, getting out of the car and jogging to my side. I open the door for myself just as he arrives. Niall grasps my hand and sets me down on the ground. We walk to the back of his car to retrieve our bags. He slings his arm over my shoulder as we head into Western Hall.

Niall and I part ways on my floor. He kisses my forehead before climbing another flight of stairs to unpack his own bags. I take my key out, sliding it into the slot. The door opens with a click and I drag my two suitcases in. The lights are flipped on, igniting the room.

Everything looks the same as it did a week ago. Has it really only been about a week since I left this school? So much has happened during that short break. Niall showing up with my brother was a total shock. I know the decision to get back with him was a good one. He has proven numerous times that he loves me. I know he does and I completely feel the same way, though I have never verbally expressed it.

Bag by bag, all of my belongings and clothes are placed back in drawers. The last thing to be taken out is Niall's SnapBack that he gave me for Christmas. The hat rests on top of my bedside table. I specifically placed it next to my alarm clock so every morning when the alarm goes off to wake me, I will see the SnapBack and instantly think of Niall.

The empty suitcases are put into my closet when I finish. It's five o'clock in the evening and I am exhausted. Tonight will be an early night for me. Tomorrow, classes start up again.

My volleyball season is ending next week and so is Niall's. He has one final game in two days that I hope can make it to. I know he enjoys me being there to support him and I honestly love watching him. The thought of Niall leaving me to go to another school to play makes me shudder. We just got back together, I can't let him leave my life once again.
