Chapter 55
Bailey's POV
As each minute of driving in the car passes, the nerves begin to build up. I've never met Niall's parents before. What if I'm not what they were expecting, or who they want their son to be with? What if I say something completely stupid or slip a swear word out by accident?
A swarm of what ifs cloud my mind. I'm getting way too paranoid about this. I need to calm down, everything will be fine.
Without realizing it, I begin to chew on my fingernails, a nervous habit I adapted to when I was younger. I stare out the window, watching each car pass by and various road signs informing us that we're now in Mullingar. My foot rapidly taps on the bottom of the car. It won't stop and my stomach flips.
"You okay?" Niall's head turns to the side to questioningly peer at me.
"Mhm," I nod, not daring to glance at him or he will see my uncertainty.
The roads abruptly begin to clear out and small houses line the almost deserted streets. We're just about there.
Niall sighs, "Bailey you don't have to be worried about anything. They're going to love you, I promise. You shouldn't be getting nervous over meeting my parents," he lightly laughs at the end.
"Exactly, they're your parents! If their first impression of me is horrible and I do something stupid, they aren't going to like me and if they don't like me they won't think that I'm the one for you when I think I am and I hope you feel the same way because I don't want us to end anytime soon and I love you a lot, but your parent's opinion of me is really important for our future and our relationship and-"
"Bailey stop," Niall interrupts me before my rampage goes any further.
I'm breathing heavily, foot still involuntarily tapping.
"You need to stop worrying about all of this before you pass out. Meeting my parents isn't that big of a deal. You will be fine and they are going to love you, I swear it."
Just as the final word leaves his mouth, the car stops and I look away from Niall to see that we're parked in his driveway.
It's a smaller home, with brickwork scaled on one half and a faded white color tops it. The house looks so home-y and charming. I imagine a younger Niall playing football in the front yard, practicing for hours on end.
I take a deep breath before stepping out of the car. Niall joins me and he grabs my bags from the trunk. I take one suitcase and he takes the other. He leads the way up the path towards the front door. Niall pulls the door open and holds it open for me to walk through. My bags are placed on the floor once he steps in as well.
"Mum, we're back!" Niall calls out and I immediately hear dishes clattering.
Footsteps are heard and I force the nerves in my stomach to go away. Out from the narrow hallway, Niall's mother comes pacing out, the widest smile shown on her face.
"Bailey!" Her arms fly around me and I hug back with the same smile on my face.
I let out a sigh of relief, she's so welcoming I already love her.
"It's so lovely to finally meet you! Niall has told me so much about you. You're even more beautiful in person." Her accent is just like Niall's, maybe even a little thicker.
She pulls away from the embrace.
"It's so nice to meet you, too," I smile, glancing to my side where her son has positioned himself.
"Niall, why don't you bring Bailey's luggage up to your room." His mum momentarily looks to him.
My mouth parts as the nerves sink back in without wanting them to. I don't want to be left alone with his mum. She seems incredibly nice already, but I'm scared I'll say the wrong thing in front of her and Niall won't be there to help me.
