Sorry this may be kinda confusing, but I'm skipping many months. It's now late May.

Chapter 38

Bailey's POV

"When will I get to see you again?" I ask into the phone. It takes him a moment to respond.

"I'm not sure. Soon though, okay?"

"Yeah."

"Alright, well I have to go now. I love you, B."

I cherish those words, absorbing them and permanently filing them in my brain.

"I love you, too, Danny."

The phone call disconnects, and I sigh. I didn't want to stop talking to my brother. He had finally called me, and I loved hearing his voice. He's still deployed, and doesn't know when he'll be able to come home.

Danny and I talked for a little more than an hour. He asked me about classes, the terrible food he remembers from when he went here, and Niall. I didn't tell him that Niall lives with me. Aubrey and Kyle are the only ones that know, but that's because Aubrey spilled it to him. I guess you could count Chase, too, since Niall was his roommate.

The door to our room opens with a click, and I turn around to see Niall come in. He kicks off his shoes, and looks up at me.

"What are you all smile-y about?" He laughs.

"I just got off the phone with Danny. He called me."

"Really?" Niall seems surprised, but pleased. "How's he doing?"

"Really well. We talked for the past hour, but then he had to go. It was so nice hearing from him," I smile.

"Any news on when he can come home?" He questions. I guess you could say my brother and Niall are friends. Last Christmas they hung out all the time. They sometimes text, too, when Danny has the time.

"He isn't sure," I answer, smile slowly fading. "Is there any way you could work some of your magic like last time and bring him home?"

Niall deeply chuckles, remembering Christmas break. "I don't think so. I'm still surprised it actually worked."

I giggle, and he strides over to me where I'm sat on the bed. His palm in pressed on my cheek, caressing the skin. Niall leans in and our lips connect for a sweet moment.

"It's really nice out today. I thought we could go for a walk," he suggests. I then take notice in how he's dressed: shorts and a t-shirt. This weather has been quite abnormal lately. Usually, it's rainy and damp, but this whole weekend has been sunny and warm.

I agree to his idea, wanting to get out of the small dorm room. I feel like a bear coming out of hibernation, even though I've stepped foot outside this whole winter. I can't wait to feel the warm sun.

I pull my hair up into a bun, and lace up my sneakers.

Niall and I step outside, and I happily sigh. The weather is beautiful. Birds are chirping and flying around from branch to branch. The sun is brightly shining, powerful rays beating down on us. So long winter, I will not miss you.

We start on the pavement that loops around the massive field in the center. Students are grazed out on lawn chairs, enjoying the change of degree. No one is in rain coats or heavy jackets.

My hand is grasped once we find the trail just off campus. It's a common path and we pass by multiple people. The trail leads in the forest. The sun peaks through the canopy of the massive trees. It's beautiful.
