Chapter 19
Bailey's POV
I had stayed up practically the whole night, reviewing what I was going to say in this case. I don't know what to expect from this class. I am also extremely nervous. It will be quite humiliating if Niall's side wins.
Early that morning, I woke up and gathered all of my notes that had been left out on the duvet. While doing my work, I had dozed off into a slumber, not bothering to pack away everything.
I dress in a more formal outfit, to fit the part. A tight skirt is pulled on. I pair the bottoms with a white blouse. My hair is straightened in a few quick minutes. The necessities are packed into my bag as ten o'clock in the morning arrives. I strap my shoes on and leave the dorm room. The hallway is packed, and I barely make it to the exit without getting bumped around. The weather outside is gradually getting warmer, which is good - especially because I'm wearing a short skirt. However, being that it's the beginning of December, the wind is still treacherous.
The classroom is completely transformed when I enter. The professor's table has been replaced by a large oak desk. Two smaller ones, made of the same material, are sat on both sides. Many isles of chairs line the far corners. That is where the jury will be placed.
I look around the room in search of Aubrey. When I find her, I'm happy to see that she, too, is dressed for the part.
"Cute skirt," I compliment, walking up to her.
"Thanks, hun. You don't look too bad yourself," she winks.
My smile soon disappears, and I divert my attention to my feet. The nerves are sinking in. My heart rate speeds up when I think that I forgot all of my planned speeches.
"You'll be fine," Aubrey assures me when she notices my expressions. "You will be a kick ass prosecutor."
*******
"Niall James Horan; accused of killing his sister's husband, Robert Joseph Spelling," the judge, played by Caleb, announces.
I'm sat next to a junior who is playing the part of Niall's sister. The case has just started, and I'm still running over what I'm going to say in my head.
Niall is sat at a podium next to the judge's table, listening to the things he has been accused for. My eyes are focused on him. My heart stings in pain when he ruffles his hair. His captivating blue eyes look at the person who is currently speaking. Niall's head nods and shakes at different questions that are being asked to him.
I feel like the whole world just muted in volume. Everyone's voice is no longer audible as I am staring at him. I focus in on his lips that are moving when he talks. Those plush, pink lips are making me mad at him. I long for Niall to kiss me like he did before.
At that moment, I'm suddenly able to hear again and nothing is going in slow motion. The images of Niall kissing that cheerleader is replayed over and over. My eyes seem to be watering, so I quickly wipe away the evidence of my emotions.
He hurt me.
He cheated on me.
He replaced me.
Why do I still want him to kiss me? I should despise him. I should feel hatred for this boy.
A tap on the shoulder causes me to snap out of my thoughts. The girl who is playing Niall's sister is looking at me.
"It's your turn," she whispers.
I turn my head to the front and the girl is right. I gather my thoughts and make my way to the front of the room. Niall watches my every move as I near closer to him. I try to put on a professional face.
