Chapter 48
Bailey's POV
The blinding sun peering through the windows wake me up the next morning. My head is resting on Niall's chest and our feet are entwined at the bottom of the bed. His arm is draped around my shoulders, huddling me closer to his body.
He's still fast asleep, light snores escaping his parted lips. I stare in awe at his pure beauty. The way the peaking rays of sun shine on his face, contrasting from the darkness of the other side of the room make it seem like he's glowing.
A shiver runs up my spine once I realize that none of us are currently clothed. I twist my head around to check the time on the beside table. It's eleven-fifty in the morning. I rub my eyes, adjusting to the light before yawning.
My stomach rumbles in hunger and I groan. I want to stay in bed wrapped in Niall's arms for the rest of the day. We could just talk from the early hours, until the late ones. I wouldn't get bored of it. I never get tired of talking to him. Niall's so interesting just to chat with. He always finds something to talk about and his usual humor snakes its way in the conversation.
The grumbles intensify and become louder. I don't want to wake him up from his sleep. It becomes almost impossible to unscramble myself from Niall's hold. When I try to move his arms, they just grab on to me tighter than before. However, after a few pushes and pulls, I'm free from his confines.
I take out a pair of shorts and a tank from my drawer, along with a new bra and panties. Once dressed, I toss mine and Niall's dirty clothes left carelessly on the floor last night into the washing basket. I set out a clean pair of boxers for him to use on my now empty side of the bed.
I grab the filled washing basket and open the bedroom door. I check one last time to make sure Niall's still sound asleep before closing it as quietly as possible. I trail down the staircase, dropping the basket into the laundry room and making a mental note to come back to it after breakfast. The living room is empty as I pass by, but I hear a clatter of dishes coming from the kitchen and follow it.
Aubrey's back is turned to me as I walk in the vast room. She cracks an egg into a frying pan just as a piece of toast pops up from the toaster. Her vision sight spots me from the corner of her eye.
"Bailey!" Aubrey sprints over to me, wrapping her arms around me for a suffocating hug. "Oh my God I heard the gun shots and the sirens and the screams from that damned party and I started freaking out, ask Kyle, I was just bawling! I couldn't help but think that you were hurt and I begged him to let me go try and save you, but he wouldn't let me because he thought it was too unsafe and that Niall would make sure you were alright. But me being me I was still worried so I outsmarted him ten minutes later when he fell asleep and I escaped out of our bedroom only to find your and Niall's shoes at the floor so I knew you were home and okay since he was with you, but oh my God I was so scared for you!"
"Aubrey, I'm fine, really. Still a bit shaken up, but I'm alright. I'm not hurt or anything. Niall got me out of there. Thank you for thinking of me, I really appreciate it. But don't get too scared. If I'm with Niall you can count on him protecting me," I smile and Aubrey's eyes water up. I single tear escapes her eyes.
"Don't cry, please!" I coo, wrapping my arms around her again. She nuzzles into me.
"I don't wanna lose my best friend," Aubrey cries.
"You won't," I assure her.
"I'm happy that you two are better now," she says into my shirt.
"Thank you."
I hope she doesn't bring up any events that occurred just after Niall and I got home. Maybe she didn't even notice what we were doing just two bedroom doors down.
