Chapter 32
Niall's POV
She watches me closely as I pack some last minute things into my bag. Neither one of us talks, leaving the room at an uncomfortable silence. My back is faced to her but I know that she is looking at me with tears brimming at her eyes.
I bite the inside of my cheek as the zipper is pulled to the other side. I stand from the ground, grasping a hold of the handle. I turn to her, waiting for her tears to come. But they don't, and that worries me. Her eyes bore into mine, never blinking. My head bows down to look at my feet.
"I'll miss you," I speak up, breaking the silence.
She doesn't reply. I'm only going for the weekend and I know it's going to be hard for both of us. Her silence is eating me alive. Why isn't she speaking?
"You'll miss me, right?" I press.
Bailey rises from my bed and slowly makes her way over to me. She stands on her toes to reach my cheek and plants a single kiss. With no words, she turns to exit the room.
Why the hell is she leaving? Swiftly, I dash forward to take her hand, tugging her back in.
"What are you doing?"
I expected her to be crying, telling me how much she will miss me, how she will call and text me everyday even though we will only be separated for two days. I never thought she would ignore me.
"Don't you see what's happening, Niall?" Her voice cracks.
I stare into her captivating blue eyes and shake my head.
"This is the end of us."
"End of us? I'm only going for two days."
"And for those two days you will be pampered and treated with high respect so you will want to switch schools. You will fall in love with the campus, the team, the coach. Why would you want to come back to this school?" Her words break my heart. Why am I doing this to her?
"Because I'd be coming back to you," I answer.
"You have been given an amazing opportunity, you'd be foolish to pass it up."
Now she's confusing me.
"Are you trying to get rid of me?" For the first time, I feel incredibly vulnerable under her gaze.
Bailey rests her hand on her rip, frowning at me.
"No, of course not. It's just.. I know you're going to love London." Bailey looks up to me. I take a step closer to her.
"How can you be so sure?" I place my right hand delicately on her cheek. "Maybe the campus will be covered in dog shit."
A small smile breaks out on her face, along with a short and quiet laugh. It sounded like an exhaust of air, not yet fully reaching the musicality of her regular laugh.
"I'm serious, Niall."
"So am I. You're making a bigger deal of this than you should be. I'm not leaving you," I try to assure her.
Bailey leans up to connect our lips. I carelessly drop my bag and it falls to the floor. My new free hand grasps her waist, backing her up to the wall. Her mouth parts, giving me enough space to enter. I press my body roughly against hers. Bailey arches her back, creating more friction. I break away to slide my lips down to her jawline, then neck. Her chest falls up and down at an un-even rate. My teeth graze the sensitive skin. Just as I bite down, she fists my hair into her hands, tugging harshly. A moan slips from my mouth at the sensation.
