Chapter 65
Bailey's POV
I'm not sure how long it was until I realized the impeccable timing of how the beginning of the week was to plan out. It was late on Sunday night when Niall and I were laying in bed watching TV that I pondered over how tomorrow would flow. I assumed that we would drive the two and a half hour distance to my parent's home after eating lunch, furthermore dodging the morning rush hour. But it was when I walked downstairs to get both of us a glass of water during a missable commercial break that I noticed the flick of a neon green sticky note taped on the side of the fridge. On it, I could clearly comprehend the cursive glide of pen inked on the thin paper with the words, "Practice Monday at 3:15."
At first, nothing immediately popped into my head. No flashing red warning sign blinking in indication that Niall would be at football practice when we should be on the road. It wasn't until I went back upstairs juggling the almost forgotten glasses of water and my phone abruptly lit up from across the bedroom with an incoming text that I remembered my conversation with Danny.
"No," I had whispered in disbelief.
"Huh?" Niall looked up at me from his sprawled out stance in our bed. The muscular arms that once slung around the back of his head in a comfortable pose were released from the grip when he saw my extreme uncertainty. "Bailey, what's wrong?" he had sternly demanded, pulling back the duvet and determinedly stalking over to me. The glasses of filled water were taken from my grasp and set aside.
Two hands softly raised my sunken face up to meet his concerned expression. A calloused thumb swiped at the skin next to my closed eyes. "Hey, tell me what happened?" Niall soothingly requested but with an orderly quip hidden behind it.
"You have practice tomorrow at three fifteen," I quietly commented.
"Yeah?" Eyebrows creased in confusion.
I was hoping that maybe Niall would piece together the information that he knew but momentarily forgot. My eyes opened to meet his stunning crystal blue ones.
"Wait." His whole face dropped in front of me. "Please tell me you aren't reconsidering everything with football and Liverpool.."
"No!" I argued, shaking my head. "It's not that."
"Then what is it?" He appeared to be relieved by my assurance, but the edge was still present.
"I was going to visit Danny tomorrow at home."
Niall's lips parted as the memory played back in his mind accompanied with a deep sigh. His hands left my face to swim through his messy hair over and over again. I knew his exact feelings when he did this. It was always when he was frustrated, confused, or trying really hard to think. This time, it was all three.
"And I wanted you to be there to tell them about the engagement," I added and he nodded in understanding, though never glancing back at me.
I could tell Niall was thinking of something to tell me, but he was unable to. I was the exact same. I wanted him to be there with me, but I knew he couldn't miss his first official practice with LFC.
For a second I considered just going back home on Tuesday, but then I realized that Niall would have practice every day so that didn't fix anything.
