Chapter 19

Avery's POV

I just got home after Mia dropped me, only to see Shannon still sitting on my bed in the same place I left her.

"You're still here?" I ask and she turns around to look at me.

"Yeah," she says while shrugging her shoulders. "I know you're still mad, but can I stay the night?"

I notice that she looks rather upset.

"Of course you can!" I say softly while climbing into my bed next to her.

I rest my head on her shoulder and she rest hers on top of mine. "Are you fighting with your parents again?"

She lets out a sad laugh. "When am I not?"

"I'm sorry!"

"It's fine! We both know that it could be worse."

"Very true," I say sadly.

"Oh crap!" she says in realization. "I'm sorry. I should think before speaking."

"No! Don't apologize! It's the truth," I wave off. "You shouldn't ever feel like you don't have a right to talk to me about your problems just because of my shit life. Your pain is yours and mine is mine. Neither should be considered any lesser than the other."

"I really love you, Avery!" I hear her whisper in response.

"I love you too!"

"Does this mean you're not mad at me anymore?" She asks carefully.

"No, I'm not mad at you anymore."

"Good!" she says and I can just tell by the tone of her voice that she is smiling.

"So do you want to tell me about your parents or just watch TV?" I ask.

"Neither! There's nothing on TV. And there's also nothing to tell you about my parents that you don't already know. They are being their usual homophobic selves. Absolutely nothing new there," She finishes with a sigh and lays down on the bed.

Shannon doesn't have the greatest of home lives; her parents are very conservative and don't approve of her sexual orientation whatsoever. The only reason they still allow here to live at home is because they feel like it would be wrong to just throw her out of the house. Also if she left they would lose all control over her and they love to control her. Truthfully speaking, they are assholes.

That's why she's always over here and why I allow her to be, even if I'm mad at her; I completely understand what she's going through. She had it even harder before I moved back here, she didn't really have anywhere to go to get away from them. During school breaks she would visit me, but the rest of the year she was stuck with them.

"Okay! So what do you want to do?" I ask, lying down next to her.

"I don't know. Where did you go after you left here? You were gone longer than I thought you would be."

"Yeah. I went to a bar and met a really cute brunette," I say, deciding to tell her about my night.

"A brunette? That's different. Usually you go for blondes," She says while turning her head to look at me.

"Yeah well considering how things turned out with the last two blondes I was with, I thought it might be time to branch out."

"You really know how to pick them don't you?" she asks with a small laugh.

"Seems like I do!"

"So how did it go with the brunette?"

"Oh you're going to love this!" I say to get her attention and she turns fully to me.
