It was an unspeakable thing to see your ex-fiancé in front of you, once dead but somehow still there, perfectly healthy.
It was unreal.
The moment I saw her, my heart raced with the adrenaline of disbelief, being taken away by who-knows-who, someone at my side who I had paid no attention to.
But this meant trouble. Not only for me, but for Aphmau, for everyone.
And there I was, sitting in the tree house in a complete haze of confusion, anger, uncertainty. How such an absurd thing could happen had an unknown answer to me.
Meanwhile, I was being explained to that Shadow Knights typically faked their death to join the Knights, but how could Sasha have been alive?
"She's not a Shadow Knight," I screamed, uncontrollable for my actions.
"Listen Kenmur, she is a—"
"No, she's not!"
At that time, those around me decided to give it a break, and left for the ground; I assumed to see the others and find out what was specifically happening.
I felt weight land on the bed beside me and a hand stroke my hair reassuringly. I looked into the indigo eyes of Emmalyn.
"Hey..." She said quietly, almost as if she were scared to talk to me. I grunted in response, lowering my eyes back to the horizon across the water.
There was a long period of silence before I felt her trembling grab my clenched fist, easing her fingers into mine, "It's going to be okay, Kenmur. There's going to be an explanation to this. Every problem has an answer."
"Except for zero divided by zero."
She giggled quietly, a high-pitched chirp that sent shivers down my spine, "True. How would that mathematical expression even be solved? Would the divisor be zero or one?"
"Precisely why it's unanswerable."
She paused before leaning back, her hand leaving with her. The bed shifted once more as she stood, her hands on her hips as she gave me an icy stare, "What is this malarkey about Sasha and the Shadow Knights?"
"I have my doubts. I refuse to accept the fact that she's a Shadow Knight," I said stubbornly.
I could see tears forming in her eyes as she spat out, her fists clenched, "And why would you not accept it?"
"Because I—was—am—I don't know—in love with her."
Redness crept up her neck then to her face, more tears blurring the indigo orbs. Heartache pained me seeing her like this. I'm no lady-master, but Emmalyn was different from other women. She was exquisite. If I made a wrong move, she would crack. Just like me.
"Emmalyn..."
"No, no... it's okay," she turned away, and I knew the tears began to fall, "I get it, you love her. You should see her later." She began to walk toward the ladder, but I quickly stood up and grabbed her wrist.
"No, I don't love her," I said, looking at her tear-stained cheeks, "because there is another woman in my life that I love."
"And who might that be?"
"You, Emmalyn."
She was silent for a long time, searching my face for any trace of lies or amusement before saying quietly, "Don't call me that."
"W-what? Why?!"
She pecked my cheek, "Because I want you to call me Emmy."
