The sun was blistering with heat, beating onto your shoulders and head. The horse beneath you, named Luna, a black and white mare, trotted steadily down the dirt path.

After leaving the barn, you planned to ride around the area of your land that was left to nature, forestry and multiple bodies of water taking up the majority of that land.

Your favorite place in this area, however, was the lake that set at the edge of your property, sitting alongside the Ro'Meaves'.

You were only a year behind the oldest child of the family, Garroth. He was also one of your closest friends, the little you had. Living in the most rural of areas left an impact on your social life, but the friends you had were the ones you would always know and be close with.

Luna continued along the path, starting along the section where apple trees and blueberry bushes lined each side of the matted dirt. You loved when the weekends came where you and your family would harvest the fruit that grew in this area, a tradition that came from your great-grandparents to your own generation.

As you edged your way to the lake, you heard the unmistakeable sound of another set of hooves padding along the ground. You pulled Luna to a stop and looked around, having an idea of who it was but still felt it was necessary to find the source of the noise.

The sound, too, came to a stop, and you guessed it was doing the same as you. You called out, "Hello?"

There was the sound of hooves again and soon a deep, masculine voice said, "Greetings, (Y/N)."

You jumped slightly and tugged on Luna's reins to turn her around, catching the sight of a familiar head of blonde hair, typically brushed to the side, and blue eyes reflecting the sunlight.

"Right back at you, GarGar," you used his mother's pet name on him in a teasing manner, knowing it bothered him when anyone besides his mother used it on him.

He gave you a warning look with a hint of playfulness and pulled his white with black spots horse, her mane adorned with purple bows, named Sprinkles, beside Luna, both of you bringing your horses to a steady pace, the lake to the left of you as the two of you went along.

"How's the family?" You asked him, looking out at the water gently lapping at the shore, the fish creating ripples from various spots in the water.

"Well. Yours?"

"Just fine," you responded, stopping Luna and jumping off of her back, tying her to a fence post beside the dock for the lake. You untied your bag from her side and pulled two apples from it, holding it at her mouth as she ate the fruit. You stroked her mane lovingly before turning around to Garroth behind you.

"Feel like swimming?" You asked.

"Yeah, sure, I gue—" he was cut off by you playfully shoving him off the boards into the water, watching as he emerged, spitting out water and glaring jokingly up at you.

"How rude of you," he said in mock offense.

"To make it fair," you said, taking your locket off your neck and removing your combat boots from your feet, "I'll join you." You jumped into the water, squealing.

The icy water sent a shiver down your spine, but you erupted from the darkness, squealing once more as Garroth began to splash water at you. You dived beneath the surface and kicked through the water, swimming away from him. You could feel your (F/C) plaid button-up sticking to your torso, your denim shorts weighing you down.

Your reached air and gasped for breath, filling your lungs before diving under once more. But right as your head went under, you felt a pair of hands grab your ankles and pull you towards them.

You turned around and looked into the eyes of the only other person it could be, "Race you to the other side of the lake?"

"You're on. Want to make this a bet?"

"Deal. If I win, you have to make me your specialty pie whenever I ask for a week."

"And if I win, you do whatever I tell you to do for the rest of the day," Garroth smirked, and you could see how determined he was in his eyes.

You counted down, "3... 2... 1!" You kicked with all strength you could muster and launched yourself through the water. You paid no mind to Garroth, focusing on your own path.

The air pressing against the water on your skin sent chills through your body, your hair soaking on your head as you continued kicking.

You could feel the water floating by speedily at your sides, up until you felt mud beneath your toes and you looked up, finding Garroth on his back on the grass, his chest heaving. He sat up with a proud smirk plastered to his face, obviously seeing the shock and disbelief on your face.

"Now, I think I'll have fun with my part of the bet," he said, "Let's take the horses back to your place, and you're going to make the bread with your 'Secret Ingredient,'" Garroth said, grinning madly at you.

You huffed and pulled yourself to your feet, "Fine." After leaving the horses back in one of the stables and walking up to your home, a cottage on the top of the hill, which your family named (L/N)'s Mound, you began to search for the ingredients you needed.

"In the meantime," Garroth was saying, trailing his fingers along the countertops, "I'll ask you some questions, and you'll answer truthfully."

"M'kay," was all you said in response, bringing out bowls and spoons from the cupboards.

"Who was your high school crush?" Garroth asked.

"Aaron."

"Middle school?"

"Aaron, also."

"Do you still like him?" He asked.

You set the bowl down and turned around to give him an exasperated look, "He's married to Lily, now. Of course not. Besides that went away in my sophomore year. I didn't like anybody else for the rest of school."

"Anybody now?"

"That's a secret." You grinned as well and leaned against the counter behind you, "Still want that bread?"

"You bet."

"Good," you reached behind you and grabbed the flour behind you, taking a handful and throwing it at his chest, the powder sticking to his moist shirt.

"You're dead, (Y/N)!" He laughed, taking the bag of flour as you sprinted towards the back door, and ran with as much speed as you could.

Both of you laughed, and soon both of you were caked in flour, laughing hysterically.
