"OW MOM!" Aphmau yelped as her mother tightly would her hair back into a bun.
"Sweetheart," her mother cooed, "The up-and-coming queen must look her best."
Lady Aphmau's ball to choose her groom is tonight and the suitors are piling in. Like many of the men, Aphmau certainly isn't ready, mentally or physically.
"This is silly," Aphmau complains. "Why do we have to hold this ball?"
"Because sugar, I can barely run this kingdom on my own," the mother explains for the thousandth time, "I won't be alive forever."
"I know," Aphmau sighs, gazing at her reflection in the vanity mirror. "But why must it be a prince?" Her mind wanders to the handsome hunter, Aaron. She feels it's so cliché to fall for a messy, but rugged guy like him. But alas, love isn't a choice.
"Done," her mother says, placing the last bobby pins in her daughters silky midnight hair. Aphmau's eyes opened once more to see the finished product. The overly laced amethyst shaded ball gown loomed long over her short legs. The upper-torso was laced as well, but obviously not enough.
"Mom, why is my cleavage exposed so much?!" Aphmau yells, anger filling her up like an overflowing dam.
"Hun, you have to make the men REALLY want you," her mother replies. A look of disgust spreads across poor Aphmau's face.
"WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!" She screams at her mother, stunned my her sudden lash out. "IM NOT SOME KIND OF TOY, I HAVE DIGNITY!" Aphmau had enough of this from her mother, like on her thirteenth birthday party, when she tried to make her wear a push-up bra.
Aphmau took the shimmer fabric in her hands and ripped it. A quick gasp escapes her mother's mouth. The daughter continues to rip until it's nothing but a frilly under dress. Aphmau grabs a close by blanket lying arounds another covers her chest.
"IM THROUGH!" Aphmau yells one last time before storming out the door and leaving the queen speechless.
Aphmau runs to the courtyard, garnished with blooming flowers at every turn. She rushes into the wood, to a familiar shack that belongs to Aaron. She knocks on the door urgently, praying that he's home. The door swings open, revealing the dusty man, holding a dagger in his hand. The dagger drops to the floor when he sees her. She gives him a weak look, then falls into his arms, sobbing.
Aaron runs his hand through her hair, hushing her like a real mother would. He sits her down on the cracked leather chair.
"Aph, what happened?" he asks concerned, his voice husky from whatever hunting trip he had just took.
"M-my mother," her voice cracks from all the tears. "S-she's horrible."
"No kidding," Aaron's voice trails, tightening the soft blanket around her.
Suddenly, he turns to him and her eyes turn serious. "We have to leave, now."
"I was waiting till you'd ask that," he smiles, turning to woven bags holding all the clothes she had brought here in case this day came. Aphmau covers her mouth from the thoughtfulness. She stands up, walking toward her lover. She stands on her tippy toes and kisses him right on the lips. The height difference is almost hilarious.
The two leave before the light fades into the night. They venture far away from the kingdom, leaving the manipulative queen to suffer without her daughter's youth. It soon fades out, leaving barely a trace of existence. Well, the two lovebirds, lived alone for quite sometime. But, like every fairytale, they find a village. Happily ever after, of course. Use a bit of your imagination, it may come in handy.
