My dad walked over and simply stated, "Zayn, Kai, looks like you're both destined to rule, just like Emerald and Seraphina here."

"What? really? That's cool. Now I can finally get on the boat without knocking myself out." We all laughed at that.

Suddenly, someone stood behind us. "Adrian? Is that really you?"

My dad turned around facing the person who called his name. His eyes widened as he realized who it was.

Mom.

We all stood in our places not wanting to break the tension in the air. They stared at each other for a few minutes not once breaking eye contact. Suddenly, mom's face went from ecstatic to downright disgust. "You idiot!" she yelled at him.

His eyes widened in shock. He obviously didn't imagine their reunion this way. "What? What did I do?", he cried frantically.

"What did you do?! Don't 'What did I do?' me! You know perfectly well what you did! You wiped my memory!" she now looked like she would crush him.

He looked terrified. He obviously wasn't planning on this either. "Fine. I admit to that, but-"

Uh oh. She hates the word 'but'. She became even more furious at the word. "But?! But?! Don't you DARE but me! I've spent thirteen years taking care of a child ALONE while you've been doing what - running the kingdom?! I am your WIFE and you ditched me on land ALONE with a child! What was sooo important that you had to up and leave your wife and mother of all these children on land with one of them - a toddler nonetheless - and to top things off, you gave Emerald, one of MY children, to another family! How! Just how do you intend to explain yourself?!" she took several deep breaths trying to calm herself down. When she was all calmed down, she said in a quiet voice, "How do you intend to explain why you left me?" She looked as if she were about to cry.

"I have an explanation. I don't know if it's one you want to hear, though." She stared at him waiting for him to continue. He took a deep breath. "All right. Here's what happened. The group of rouge mermaids from the south attacked." Her eyes widened at these words. "You being a shifter, you can't function as well underwater as a normal mermaid can. So, I decided to leave you on land with them.", he motioned to Emerald and me. The rouges took Emerald from us and disappeared with her. We're lucky Sera was friends with her growing up on land or else we may never have found her. The rest stayed with me because they weren't after them. They were after you." He said pointing at us. "I never wanted to leave you." he said slowly. "I did it to protect you."

Suddenly, it hit me. "Wait a second. You mean that you really are my biological mom?" I pointed to her. She nodded. "And you two are married?" They nodded. "One question. What's a shifter?" They both looked like they just realized something.

"Oh. You haven't told them?", Mom asked my dad.

"No. I haven't really gotten around to that." he admitted.

She started to look nervous. "Well, we will have to explain tonight. Come on. Let's get your stuff in the house."
