The night came and gone like a snap of the fingers. The moon had fallen and sun had risen, illuminating the land and waking it's people. Malia was certainly awake, not that she had fallen asleep at all. The moon had always fascinated Malia. She much preferred the night to the day- and she always had. Malia had always felt comforted by the darkness; but now that she was in the midst of a war again, she wasn't so sure. The darkness wasn't so comforting anymore- it hid her demons and her worst fears amongst it. Sleep wasn't much better either. She would just relive all of her worst memories in the most torturous ways. Every time she closed her eyes, another loved one dropped dead for the hundredth time- to the point where sleeping didn't seem like an option anymore.
Sometimes life felt like a dream she couldn't wake up from; and that terrified her. But when she had Draco with her, the night terrors subsided and didn't happen so often. But now that he was pushing her away, the nightmares were beginning to return.
Malia found herself sprawled in Pansy's armchair where she had decided to sleep for the night since she didn't really feel like going back to Draco's room. If he wanted to push her away, she'd do the exact same.
"How long have you been up?" Pansy's groggy voice interrupted the slow hum of the silence, making Malia jump slightly. "A while. Do you know what time it is?" Pansy lazily picked up her arm and looked at her watch, then quickly shoving it down again. "Five past eleven." Malia had not realised how fast the time had passed. Pansy sat up, rubbing her eyes and stretched, yawning loudly. Pansy got out of bed and walked to the door of her bedroom. "You coming for breakfast?" Pansy opened her door and waltzed out, Malia following suit behind her.
Draco, Blaise and Theo were already sitting at the table, talking quietly. They all looked up and stared at the two of them, but Pansy and Malia walked into the kitchen, breaking their gazes. "You'll need to talk to him at some point." Pansy whispered.
"I-"
The front door was chapped loudly, cutting Malia short. No one ever came to their door. "I'll get it." Theo grunted from outside the kitchen. Pansy gave Malia a swift look before walking out of the kitchen. Malia quickly followed, curious to see who was at the door.
Theo opened the door, revealing a blonde girl who looked about the same age as the rest of them. Malia recognised her, but she couldn't put a name to her face. "Daphne!" Pansy pushed passed Theo and hugged the girl, the girl standing stiff, emotionless.
"Come in now!" Pansy dragged her in, pushing Theo out of the way once again to close the door. Malia looked to the rest of the Slytherins who all looked rather shocked.
Malia remembered the girl now. The girl was Daphne Greengrass, a Slytherin that Malia had spoke to briefly. She had spoken to her when she dated Dean Thomas for while. Malia remembered her being nice enough.
Theo returned to his seat and continued to eat his food whereas Draco and Blaise looked at Daphne in confusion. Pansy had started to ramble about how much she had missed her and asking her where she had been.
