We were talking. I don't even remember what we were talking about,... But we were. He was their. Then,... Curly walked in. He ran, as if he were Johnny, who was always scared of Curly Shepherd. I'm guessing Dally didn't like Curly Shepherd. Once Curly, a kid who was almost a foot shorter than him, walked in, Dallas ran out the door yelling, "I gotta go smoke. See ya later."

After Dally was out the door, Curly came up to me, grinning. He looked... Different... Older, maybe. Hmmm...

"Hey, Ash." he said, "I heard you was back town. How is ya?" He never did have a good vocabulary. He failed grammar in Junior high. All 6 years! Thought, he did pass the 7th year.(By bribing the teacher)

"I'm okay." I said, not looking him in the eye. I knew , if I looked him in the eye, if I saw him again, I might make the mistake of falling in love with him.(Cherry quote) "Just,... Thinking." I was thinking. I couldn't stop thinking since I'd got here.

"What 'bout?" he asked, coming closer, smiling wider.

"Um... Ponyboy..." I lied, "He isn't feelin' too hot."

"Oh," he said, looking sad, "Tell him, his bud, Curly, told him to get better..." I nodded. He came closer. "...You been thinking 'bout anyone else?" He grabbed my hand and came too close for comfort.

"My new friend, Dally!" I blurted out.

"Huh." he asked, somehow confused.

"Yeah," I said, "Met a guy named Dallas." I looked him in the eye. "He's a real nice guy, ya know?"

"Um... Yeah." he said, "Well,... See ya, round." He headed toward the door. I did it...

What did I do?
