Leading up to now

Chapter Twenty-Five- Lucas

This was the most awkward family gathering in the history of everything. 

"So. You guys are... vampires?" Cassandra gulped.

"Yes." Vikrum said, bluntly.

"And you... drink blood?" The last word she squeaked, her usually confident air was dashed.

"Yes." Janesse sighed.

"And you lied to me this whole time?" She said, looking at me.

If looks could kill, I'd be deader than a dead thing.

"No! Yes. I couldn't tell you! It wasn't my secret to tell." I tried, but she still glared at me. 

"I can't believe this." She sighed, dropping her glare and putting her head in her hands. 

Nobody answered. 

"Is there anything else you're keeping from me?" She said, her voice muffled by her palms.

"Uh. Barty talks?" I whispered, so only she could hear.

"Thanks bro!" Called Barty from upstairs.

"Did you hear that?" Janesse asked, looking around.

"Uh, no! Cassandra, shall I walk you home?" I said, my voice was pleading.

"Yes. But don't you DARE try and drink my blood." She stormed off to wait in the entrance.

I picked up her bag from the chair she'd left, and walked after her before Vikrum or Janesse could stop me.

When I reached Cassandra, she was under the tree in my garden. She stood as I approached, still glaring at me. 

"Cassandra, please! You never liked me anyway!" I said, handing her bag to her.

"Just walk me home. It's better if you don't talk." She hissed, clutching her bag in a death grip. 

"Cassandra. I'm not a monster! It's not like I'm going to entice you into my lair and drain you of blood!"

"I bet that's why you asked me out!"

"To kill you? Don't you remember what I did after that? Huh? I saved your life!" 

She pursed her lips, tears running down her cheeks, "Just go. Just go and life your undead life. Leave me alone!"

As she walked away, I ran in front of her, grabbing her elbows so she coudn't escape.

"Would I do this, if I wanted to kill you?" I sighed.

Thats when I kissed her.
