The silence was crushing. My face ached from the slap, but I was determined not to fight her, or my brother.

"How dare you?" Janesse hissed. Her fangs showed under her pastel pink lips.

"Lucas. You know the consequences for turning a human. Think of her aunt and uncle. Think of her future!" Vikrum looked the opposite of mad. He looked... dissapointed. This hurt more than it would if he'd punched me straight in the face.

"Have you fed her?" Janesse asked, harshly. But I know she knew. She smelt the blood in the air. Vikrum looked even more upset with me.

"Look. I'm sorry--"

"SORRY? Sorry. Oh, because that makes it better does it?" Janesse threw her arms up in exasperation.

"She was already half vampire! If I hadn't turned her, she'd have died!" It was a feeble argument.

"There were other ways. We have more antidote stored in our base in Transylvania. You knew we could have healed her. You watched me order more." Vikrum pinched the bridge of his nose.

"Is that true Lucas?" Cassandra whispered. She looked shocked and hurt. This was infuriating! I turned on her.

"You wanted this! You wanted your memories!"

"NO LUCAS." She screamed, "I didn't care then. From the moment I met you, from the moment I saw you, from the moment you spoke to me, I wanted... I wanted you. Ok? But now? I don't know anymore." A tear rolled down her cheek.

"Lucas--" Vikrum began.

"Not now." I whispered to him.

"Lucas I..."

"NOT NOW."

"Gerald Gervis. He's left the country."

Somebody stake me.
