“Cassie, sit down. We need to have to talk about what we saw last night.” Uncle John said and I sat down across from him and Aunt Fiona. I was shaking with fear, I didn’t want to do it, and it just seemed so easy. “We love you and you can talk to us.”
“I know…” I started crying into my hands. “I just wish I could remember. I blame myself for their death, it just seemed so easy… I could have a peaceful life and start over with my parents where ever they are.”
“Ssh, it’s okay. Let it out,” Aunt Fiona moved next to me, and held me while I cried. “Talk to us, what else is bothering you.”
The fact the guy I like is vampire… I thought to myself.
“Lucas” Uncle John cut me off.
“What did he do to you Cassie? Tell me, I will go and speak to Vikrum right now.” He acted so fatherly, I couldn’t help but smile.
“Nothing, it’s just teenager drama… Like one minute I think he likes me and the next he’s pushing me away. I had my proper first kiss, I’ve pecked other guy’s lips before but Lucas was my first real kiss.” I whispered.
“Don’t let a boy rule your life Cassie.” Aunt Fiona said and kissed my forehead. “Listen how about you stay off school for a while?” I nodded and wiped my tears away.
That night we sat on the couch watching movie, pigging out and laughing. Uncle John held my hand through the whole movie. He really did care for me, like I was his own daughter.
The days passed and I decided to go to school today which was Friday I didn’t want my grades to slip. I walked into school with my hair tied up and no makeup on. As soon as I got of the car, people started to stare and whisper. I kept my head down and walked to registration. I took my seat next to Gerald who kept throwing me side looks. Great everyone knows about the sad pathetic girl who failed at killing herself.
“Try harder next time.” I heard a cheerleader laugh as the teacher walked in. I shut my eyes trying to hold back the tears that comment could be for anyone. “Who doesn’t succeed in the simplest plan of killing themselves?”
I grabbed my bag and ran out of the class. I lay on the grass looking up at the sky.
“Cassie,” I opened my eyes to see Savvy sitting down next to me. “Don’t listen to her, she’s a bitch.” She hugged me and I saw Lucas standing at the school doors. My eyes didn’t move off him once. “Do you want me to tell him to come over?” Savvy stood up “Lucas come here.” She shouted and I stood up shaking my head.
“I can’t see him right..” I whispered.
“What did you kiss him or something?” Savvy laughed and when I didn’t say anything. Her face was frozen in shock. “You kissed Lucas?!” She shouted as Lucas stood next to her. “Maybe it’s your fault doofus.” She punched him in the arm.
“Savvy, it’s not his fault.” I told her.
“It’s true then?” Lucas asked and I looked away as tears rolled down my cheeks. I nodded at them. “Cassandra, why didn’t you let anyone know how you were feeling?”
“Because I can’t, I have secrets that I can’t be telling other people. It’s not my secret to tell.” I snapped and walked away.
“Cassie wait.” Savvy caught up to me. “I’m sorry, you’re one of my best friends. Don’t hate me.”
“I could never hate you,” I rolled my eyes and they landed on Lucas. “Just take me home.” I whispered.
