April 11th, 2016-
Drew was shitting bricks right now. Literally.
He had never, ever had a girl so angry with him like Mariah was and the fact that it was Mariah made him feel 100 times worse.
He wanted to make it up to her. Needed too. And he had the perfect idea on how to do it.
Los Angeles High had a open lunch policy and within the last few minutes before the bell ring, Drew and Travis both completed a few errands that would help his plan go correctly.
He walked back into the school, wiping his sweaty forehead with his palm as he turned to Travis who was standing next to him.
"You all ready?"
"Yup," Travis answered, nodding his head. "I'm gonna go get everything else ready for you."
"Okay, be back down here in 15 minutes. That's when she makes announcements."
"Don't worry. I gotcha." They did a quick dap before Drew pointed down the hall.
"Well, I have to go to talk to someone real fast. See you in a few." Drew dashed down the hallway, before Travis could respond. But he didn't sweat it, as he went to go help his best friend with his plan.
-
"Miss Parks." Drew opened the door to the classroom, his eyes focusing on Dawn as she was picking up her purse from her desk.
"Drew, what is it? I'm late for something. We can't right now." She emphasized on the word can't and Drew knew exactly what she was referring too.
He sighed deeply. "That's what I came to talk to you about. We can't right now and we can't anymore."
Confused, Dawn scrunched up her eyebrows. "What do you mean anymore?"
"I'm done with this, Miss Parks. I can't handle it anymore. I need this weight lifted from my shoulders." He added a bit more into his words, watching as she reached out to grab his arm.
"Drew, have you thought about this? Because-"
He nodded, backing up. "Yeah, I have. And you can take me off your extra help rooster. I'll just not walk the stage if I have too. But I have to end this because I'm gonna miss out an wonderful opportunity with a great girl who deserves the entire world. I'm not risking it."
She went to say something, but closed her mouth. "I can't discuss this right now. I really have to go."
"I'll see you around, Miss." Drew responded, saying his final goodbye to her as he turned to leave out the classroom before she could say anything else.
He glanced down at his watch, seeing that it was almost time for him to do what he had to do. He felt Dawn watching his body as he was walking away, but he couldn't let that distract him.
He walked up the hallway to the first classroom, starting a slow jog as he should have been at the main office already.
"Good afternoon, Los Angeles High! I'm Mariah Valentine and here are today's announcements!" He heard her voice and he could detect the fake cheeriness she added to it. She was still angry and she was trying to mask it for the greater sake of the announcements.
"Levels, levels, levels, levels. Get on my elevator, baby we're going up. Give me that now and later, I can't get enough. So much to discover, please don't stop me now."
Drew paused, almost crying in relief when the song started playing over the intercom and he was so glad that Travis didn't screw up the one job he had. He always knew his best friend could really come through if the situation called for him too.
"What's going on?" Mariah's voice whispered into the phone, obviously oblivious to the song that was now playing over the intercom. She couldn't complete the announcements due to whatever was now interrupting.
And though, she didn't know what was going on, Drew did. And this was just all apart of his plan as he slowed down his speed, now nearing the main office and taking a deep breath.
He turned to his right and smiled at Travis whom was in the glass of the nurses office. He instantly went to go open the door, only to discover that his best friend had locked it, and he waited as Travis unlocked it and passed him the bouquet of roses and the balloons he brought for Mariah during lunch period.
"I'm so going to get you sent to Principal Parnell for this." He spoke and Travis shrugged his shoulders, holding back a smirk.
"Like I care. It's worth it, bro." His fists came out and Drew pounded it.
Whispering a quick thank you, and leaving the room. He walked in front of the main office next door where Mariah was standing in the middle and trying to figure out why the song was still playing.
Exhaling deeply, he applied a soft knock on the window and watched as her face dropped at the sight of him.
The music suddenly stopped then and he walked inside the door to the office, her eyes almost popping out of her head as she made eye contact with him.
And without another second wasted, she took the time to walk from behind the counter over to Drew with her arms still folded. An hatred filled look on her face.
"Were you behind this?" She asked.
"Yes. But only because I wanted to show you how sorry I am. Look Mariah, I swear, I wasn't ever trying to play you. And you definitely were not supposed to find out about it the way you did." He started apologizing.
"And I promise you, it won't ever happen again. Me and that other woman is completely done now. You've had my heart for the last 4 years and from the three years we've been officially talking, I know I don't want to lose you. And if that's worth dropping someone that never mattered to me in the first place. It's done."
He could tell that she still wanted to be upset, but he was breaking through to her. "It's going to take more than that to win me back."
"I know because..." He snapped and some freshmen stood up from the occupied seats in the office, revealing large posters that read PROM?
"There's levels to your love, yeah, yeah. Levels, levels, levels, levels. Oh, oh, yeah, get on my level. There's levels to your love and I keep on climbing up. Levels." The song started playing again and Drew was serenading her, standing up once he finished, holding the flowers and balloons out to her.
There was no more hiding her true feelings as she squealed and nodded her head to his question. "Yes!"
"But I have one more thing to tell you." She allowed him to pass her the items as she awaited what he had to say next.
She sniffed the roses. "What?"
"I can't sing." He laughed, turning around and pointing to Travis who was on the other side of the glass with his speakers and phone in his hand.
At the sight of Mariah, he waved, causing her to join in the laughter between them.
"That's okay. We can't all be Nick Jonas." She giggled, pulling him into a hug. This time, neither one of them letting go.
