After mine and Yana's talk, we started to head back and I sensed someone watching us. I could tell it was my mate by the way my wolf was reacting and shook my head slightly in disbelief that I hadn't sensed him earlier. I looked at Yana for a moment before she finally glanced in my direction.
'Brother,' I mouthed at her, subtly making sure Tyto wouldn't see.
She inaudibly sighed and we quickly headed to the pack house, and to our relief Tyto headed in a different direction.
Once we arrived I turned to her and announced, "We're leaving."
"What!?" she exclaimed, eyes widening, "Already? But why?"
"Tyto saw us by the burnt tree so he's going to be suspicious and soon he'll demand information. It's better if we leave now before he gets the chance. Also I made a deal with Ulfric that has to be met in a few days." I explained, hoping she would understand and come along.
It took a moment for her to process what I was saying but she eventually nodded, "Makes sense. Let's leave before the ceremony so the pack bond doesn't pull you to stay."
I silently agreed and we both headed to collect a small bundle of clothes. Yana was probably leaving Tyto a note too so he wouldn't worry about her too much. I thought that was a good idea on her part but I was and still am not the best with sentimentality.
After I stuffed a few outfits, not caring which ones, in a light backpack I headed to Yana's room and waited impatiently for her to finish her packing. I repeatedly had to remind her to only bring what she could carry and eventually I just packed her bag because, and I quote, 'She can't decide which clothes to leave behind, they are all too cute.'
I rolled my eyes, how can a girl care so much about what she wears, I will never know. Once I packed her bag as well, we left the note tapped to my door, because the pack would look there first, and immediately left.
At first we were in our human forms and I was impressed with Yana's athletic ability but I guess running from rogues and kidnappers can do that to you. Eventually we shifted after stripping, which I shamelessly did in the open while Yana hid in the cover of the underbrush.
In our bestial forms, it was easy to cover more ground and after thirty minutes of running we picked up the first scent of no-man's land. Yana let out a low growl as we crossed into the uncharted territory and I snorted at her behavior. I let my power roll off in waves to scare off the rogues as we headed to the meeting place that Ulfric spoke of. It was a tall oak tree that was hundreds of years old and it stood in the center of no-man's land. That was one of the few landmarks that all the packs knew of in the rogue territory since it was so abnormally large.
"I see you did in fact come," Ulfric greeted as we arrived, "And you brought a friend. Yana is it? Nice to see you all grown up. The last I saw you was when my Beta gave you up because he didn't want you."
Yana snarled and I snapped my jaw at her, warning her not to fight. She reluctantly backed down and I shifted into my human form, slipping into a t-shirt so Ulfric wouldn't be distracted by my nakedness. Also I felt like I was betraying Tyto if I let this male gaze over my body and I let my wolf have peace knowing that our enemy wouldn't get to ravish us with his eyes.
"Yes I came. Did you bring your part of the deal?" I questioned raising an eyebrow at him, "I don't see her here and I refuse to do anything for you if you haven't completed the simple task I gave you."
Ulfric chuckled, "Yes of course my queen, I brought Orion's mate and I also got you another present I'm sure you'll like. Bring them out!"
On queue, a burly man dragged out two small bodies, one belonging to Graceia, Orion's mate, and the other to someone I would kill him for touching, my sister.
"You're dead!" I growled, my vision turning red as I half shifted into my wolf.
Claws extended and my teeth elongated. I felt my tail grow and my legs change into a more canine shape. Fur sprouted from some areas of my skin and I stood menacingly in front of Ulfric, ready to kill him.
"Put those claws away my queen," Ulfric warned, "If you kill me, I'll have Knox here kill your sister. You'll have to watch your sister's head get severed and know it was your fault."
I growled but let myself shift back fully into my human form. I still saw red and heard my little Artie whimper, "Cawixa."
My heart melted at her sweet voice but also burned with pure rage at the thought of those thugs man-handling her.
"If you give me a vile of your blood, then I'll gladly set you free like our little deal states my queen." Ulfric 'promised'.
I saw red, only red. I fought my wolf back from shifting and my body shook with the anger that was burning deep within me. It took every ounce of self control not to swiftly rip off his head and de-throat the other Raven Shadow scum holding my one reason to live in his arms.
"Fine," I gritted out, my eyes as dark as coals by now, "But you release them NOW!"
"Of course my dear queen, anything for you."
And then the next moment happened so quickly that if I would've blinked I probably would've missed it.
In that moment my sister was dead.
So was my soul.
