☾ C A L I X A ☾
I took a deep breath, ready to describe Ryder and I's life with our father. I knew it would be hard to tell Tyto but he was my mate and deserved to know about this part of me since I know so much about his life already.
"When Ryder and I were fairly young, we had a childhood that many dream of," I began, "We had a loving mother and a strong Alpha as a father but everything changed once Alistair Aitan gained our father's trust and allegiance."
I heard Tyto inhale at the name of his father but I didn't stop, "Ryder and I don't know what happened to change our father but he suddenly grew abusive and cruel to our family and very cold and distant to the pack. Our mother often sported bruises and we can only assume she endured countless nights of sexual abuse from our father. He grew increasingly violent and one day my wolf and I snapped. We couldn't take him abusing our mother, especially since she was now pregnant with a new pup. Ryder attacked him first, angry that he was being abused and shaped into the perfect Alpha per the methods of our father. He was prepared to be an Alpha but he did not agree with our father's ways. To bad he was not strong enough. He was put into a coma and in a spit of rage, my wolf and I killed our father."
"Calixa," Tyto murmured, pulling me into him, "I'm sorry that had to happen to you."
"It's okay, it's over now," I replied, accepting his embrace instead of pushing him away. It felt nice to be in his arms, and it helped keep me composed.
"I do have a question though."
I nodded my head, "Yeah, go ahead."
"If that's what happened, then what's with the other stories I've heard about how you became the Alpha?" he asked.
"Well, no one was really told the actual story; they just believed that I won the title and then continue to spread rumors about it. In that way, I would receive more respect from the pack and their wolves would accept me until Ryder was ready to take over again. You were the perfect reason for me to step down as well seeing as Ryder was clearly prepared to run Wild Moon," I explained.
Tyto took it all in and released me from his embrace, "I understand. Do you want to go to your father's study now?"
I silently agreed and we caught up with Ryder who had been waiting outside for us to finish. He didn't want to hear the retelling of our childhood so I understood why he let us be and allowed me to explain.
"His study hasn't been opened for years so be prepared to choke on dust," Ryder bitterly joked, letting out a dry laugh.
I frowned at him but understood why he was acting strange. Neither one of us wanted to go into that room again but it was our only hope at finding clues to why Alistair was back alive and breathing. Tyto may not have understood because I left out the part that most of the beatings were in the light of day in the pack house or in his study. He didn't mind that his pack saw his activities. In fact, I believe he thought it was a display of dominance and authority.
It didn't take long for us to arrive at the Alpha quarters of the pack house and walk to the end of the hall where a locked cherry wood door stood. It had an intricate golden handle and patterns carved into its frame. I stood on my toes and grasped the key from above the frame in order to unlock the door.
Before I could put the key in the door, Ryder grasped my hand and we shared a look before putting the key in together.
It came unlocked with a click and we pushed the door open.
The study was just how he had left it before I killed him. There were papers scattered on the desk and books on shelves as well as on his desk and coffee table. His desk was a dark mahogany and had a gold trim with small patterns dancing across it. Just being in the room gave me shivers of fear.
Luckily I had solace knowing he was dead.
"Let's get looking," I announced, taking tentative steps in the direction of a bookshelf.
Both Ryder and Tyto nodded in agreement and went towards the desk to examine its contents. I scanned the bookshelf for anything useful but I didn't know what to look for so I grabbed a few books that looked interesting and flipped through them for clues.
Nothing of interest came up in my search but I saw Ryder and Tyto paging through some documents from my father's desk so I went over to check it out.
"Did you find anything?" I asked, hoping they did so I could postpone my search through the books on the shelf. I doubted there would be anything in the books anyways.
"Yeah, but it doesn't look good," Ryder replied grimly.
"Well, bring it on," I said, ready for a challenge.
He sighed, "It seems that this necromancy has done much more damage than we originally thought and it's going to be hard to fix."
"Spit it out already Ryder."
"We need to kill one of our own to kill all of them."
