I comforted Tyto as he talked with his sister and as soon as he hung up, he left with my brother to look at the patrol towers. I was worried for them but I knew they would be fine because they were both Alpha males. With time to spare, I decided to try and connect with Calixa since I noticed a crack in her barrier.

"Calixa, please talk to me," I pleaded, hoping she would respond.

There was a moment of silence before I heard a voice whisper, "What do you want Teva?"

I almost leaped in joy but I kept myself composed as to not scare Calixa away. It was as though she were the animal and I was the human trying to coax her to come to me.

"Calixa, I know it hurts, I was there... but you need to be strong for yourself... for us! We have been through so much, don't let this destroy you as well as me. And don't think that Tyto won't accept us for this or our past. Our mate is understanding and loves us unconditionally without even getting to know the real us. So please, come back and show Alistair and Warren that they haven't gotten the better of you." I spoke, hoping to get through to her. She was a strong human and I wasn't going to let this destroy her.

"I.." she started, but paused for a moment before continuing, "I know. I just needed time. And you're completely right, Teva. What happened to us was horrible but I can't just abandon everyone. I have a pack to lead and a mate to comfort. I'm sorry for locking myself away again but I promise I will come back stronger."

I smiled and felt her take control again, making me almost howl in joy. I felt her emotions again and she could feel my happiness at her return. Our lips curled into a small smile and for a moment, we were completely one with each other.

"Never again" we said in unison and I retreated into the back of our mind, allowing Calixa to take control again.

I felt more at peace when Teva knocked some sense into me. For some reason, my wolf could almost always convince me to feel better. Who knew?

I glanced around and noticed I was in the pack house now, sitting on the love seat in the main living space. I scented the air to check were Tyto and Ryder were but found nothing except scents that were a few hours old. I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion but then Teva quickly told me that he had abruptly left with Ryder after talking with his sister.

That made me curious and I was bound to get to the bottom of what they were doing. Now that I was back, I was going to stop feeling so conflicted and focus to the mission at hand.

Alistair Aitan.

The name itself made me growl and felt rage bubble up inside me. I took a few deep breaths and closed my eyes to regain my composure. I couldn't help my mate if I let my anger take a hold of me so easily.

"Are we going to accept our mate soon Calixa?" Teva tentatively questioned, trying not to fuel my anger, "I know it may be a bit random and sudden but he did save us and you should have seen the way he acted while you were gone. I swear he was murderous and was close to killing Warren before we could get our hands on him."

I paused for a moment in thought, taking what she said into consideration. As always she had a point. Tyto had done nothing but try to win my favor since I had met him but I continuously pushed him away and made stupid decisions. All that had happened had really been my fault! If I wasn't so focused on fighting the bond, then I would have been more aware of my surroundings and would have been able to save my little sister.

"I'll consider it but it's on the back burner right now. We need to focus on taking down Alistair and doing whatever Ryder has come up with to take down the council." I replied, trying not to give her too much hope for right now.

She stayed quiet but I could tell she was content with my answer seeing as I hardly even considered it before.

With that out of the way I exited the pack house in search of Tyto and Ryder. I decided to stay in my skin form as I ran instead of my fur just because I wanted them to know I was back.

After a while, I came up to the south tower and immediately noticed that they were not here. I shrugged and decided to investigate anyways, just in case they missed something.

I cautiously entered the abandoned patrol station and sniffed the air, almost coughing on a cloud of dust the wind picked up. I scrunched my nose and kept going forward. There wasn't much to see but as I entered one of the storage rooms, I noticed a book out of place. Ryder and Tyto wouldn't have noticed it seeing as they didn't come out here as often as I did. When I was the Alpha, I made sure to check these towers everyday to be sure they were in working order. It wasn't that I didn't trust that my wolves' reports were true, because I did, it was that I needed to see it with my own eyes.

The book that was out of place was called Wolves of Legacy, quite and old read that many wolves did not take the time to actually indulge in. I picked up the book and flipped open the cover. On the inside page there was a message:

A wolf works best when a wolf has nothing left to lose

I shuddered, feeling anxious as I read that line. It sounded familiar but I couldn't quite place were I had heard it before. I thought for a moment before it clicked. My father. I growled and flipped through more pages of the book, coming across nothing unusual until I noticed a large section of the book was glued together. I grabbed the area and turned it, revealing a hollowed out space in the book.

"Well, well, well. Now what do we have here?"

A/N: Here's another chapter as a treat for me being gone so long! I actually have a lot more motivation to write and I have tons of drafts in my works for other stories that I'm excited about, but I don't plan on posting those until I finish this book. I think it might take 5-10 more chapters until this book is over but no promises.

Anyways, I hope you liked this chapter! And Calixa is back!!! Do you think she's gonna follow Teva's advice or continue to ignore the bond for awhile longer? Tell me what you think in the comments!
