Ryder glowered at Tyto, "Well we have all the time in the world. And I think I deserve an explanation of why you were carrying a man in your mouth."

Tyto glared at Ryder and threw Warren at his feet, "Fine, if you really want an explanation, I'll give you one but Teva, you should go rest."

"Teva?" Urza asked aloud, clearly confused by who I was.

"That would be me," I replied, shifting into our skin, "I'm Calixa's wolf. She is going to be absent for some time, so you will have to get used to me."

"What the hell happened in order to have my sister hide away?" Ryder growled, taking a step near our mate.

I snarled at him, "Brother, you may be my blood but that is my mate you are threatening and I will not hesitate to teach you a lesson if you harm him."

Ryder looked taken aback but nodded his head, "I'm sorry Teva, I wasn't thinking. I was only thinking of protecting you little sister."

Tyto sighed, "This is nice and all but we should chain up this mutt and then I'll tell you all I know. Teva should know the full story..."

I frowned at my mate and noticed his eyes water before he blinked away the wetness. I knew he still blamed himself for our capture but Alistair probably had much more in store for us and I'm grateful that we were saved even if it was too late to save our purity.

"Tyto, stop." I demanded as Ryder and Urza disappeared into the pack house with Warren in tow, "You should not blame yourself. We are very hotheaded and tend to be reckless. Anything that happened is my fault. I should've watched over her more. Ever since we've found the bond, both of us have gotten distracted. I should've payed more attention to our surroundings."

"I told you this isn't your fault Teva," he snapped, "You are the victim, stop thinking that you're always to blame."

I whimpered at his tone, "I know... But I just can't help but feel that way."

Our mate gave me a shake of his head and tugged me to his chest in a hug. I stiffened as his nakedness touched my own but I wrapped my arms around him. His chest rumbled in approval and he whispered, "I'll never let something like that happen to you ever again. Let's agree to stop blaming ourselves. If it's anyone's fault I'd blame my f- I'd blame Alistair."

It felt so good to be in his arms and I felt like I was drowning in the sparks from the bond. We stood there like that for awhile until Tyto must've realized we were both naked and ushered me in the pack house to get dressed.

I picked a simple outfit that Calixa would've worn; black v-neck with ripped skinny jeans and combat boots. I sighed and searched for her but she fortified herself in the back of our mind, not wanting to be disturbed. I wanted to howl out of despair. Nothing like this had ever happened to us. Sure, Calixa has locked herself away but I always broke through and brought her back. Now I couldn't find a crack in her fortress.

I exited our bedroom and headed downstairs where I found my brother and mate staring each other down. Clearing my throat, I got their attention and the glaring stopped.

"What went on while I got dressed?" I questioned, glowering at them, "And if you say nothing I'll make sure you never reproduce, even you Tyto."

They nervously fidgeted and I growled before Ryder finally spoke, "Your mate told me what happened to you and I want to kill that scoundrel responsible."

Tyto huffed, "That's my job. He's my brother after all and Calixa is my mate. This is my responsibility. I have to clean up the mess my family drags along with them."

"I'll kill him," I decided, "I am the victim and I want his blood spilling onto my hands, not yours."

They exchanged hostile glances with each other for a second before sighing, "Fine."

"Good!" I said with a falsely cheery tone, "Now I'm hungry, do you have any raw meat?"

Ryder nodded, "Yes, check the freezer, we have plenty."

Then Ryder turned to my mate and held out his hand, "Sorry for getting angry at you, I just can't help wanting to protect the last family I have left."

Tyto's lips twitched up a half smile and he grasped Ryder's hand, "No hard feelings Ryder. I'm glad we are on good terms."

I rolled my eyes and walked into the kitchen. It felt weird to have control so long that I had to feed our body and that put a damper in my mood. It felt nice to have control but I missed Calixa. I enjoyed watching from the background... except when she pushed me back for so long. But she did it for good reason. I'm a spontaneous hothead and when I take the reigns, we normally get into trouble.

I pulled open the freezer and decided to grab a steak. I thawed and heated it but didn't bother cooking it because I was rather fond of raw meat, especially after a fresh kill.

As I dug in, in a very unladylike fashion, Tyto entered the room and sat beside me at the table.

"How are you Teva?" he questioned.

"Fine," I responded, not really wanted to talk with him. My stomach felt full and I was tired of being emotional. I just wanted to sleep and hoped Calixa would come back soon.

"No, how are you really?" Tyto persisted, clearly not believing my lie.

I sighed and looked down,  "I miss her... Tyto, when do you think she'll come back? She's never sheltered herself in such a strong fortress."

"I don't know."

Those words made me frown. I knew the answer was coming but I just didn't want to hear it.

I just wished Calixa would come back soon. I need her.
