Wolves Without Hearts

☾ Chapter 42 ☾

☾ C A L I X A ☾

Tyto passed out almost immediately as I started the spell and I felt bad but I couldn't stop or else the consequence would be deadly. I turned my attention back towards the spell and continued to chant the words from the book. Soon, the blood and materials swirled around me in a scarlet spiral of magic and ended in a flash of white with three knives appearing before me.

I blinked away the blinding white light and grabbed the handles of the blades, inspecting my handy work.

The knives had latin words engraved in crimson letters that read, "Ac tenebras exstinguit, qui renatus fuerit."

"Extinguish the darkness that had been reborn," I muttered their meaning under my breath.

Ryder walked in the room and chuckled at Tyto who was now waking up, "And that, my dear sister, is why I am never in the room for these sorts of things."

"Well, it doesn't happen often," I retorted,  "This spell was just too strong for anyone but the caster to handle."

He shrugged and helped Tyto to his feet, "So do we each get a blade?"

I nodded and handed Ryder one of the knives, "Yeah, they are even more deadly to living wolves than they are to the reborn ones so you better be careful brother."

"Aren't I always careful?" he replied smugly, tucking his knife in his belt, "Now, let's get Tyto to his room so you can take care of him."

I scowled at his remark as he winked and started to guide Tyto's disoriented form to his bedroom. I followed and couldn't help but admire my mate's body from behind. Lately, the bond had been growing stronger and I sometimes found myself struggling to fight my own urges rather than Teva's.

'Will we accept the bond soon?' Teva asked hopefully and I could tell she would be thumping her tail happily if we were shifted.

I shrugged my shoulders, 'I'm not sure Teva, we should focus on Alistair first.'

She sighed and reluctantly agreed, knowing that I needed more time and Alistair was first priority until he was dead. Though, I did feel bad because I could feel her sadness, but I wasn't just going to mark him out of the blue.

I was brought out of my thoughts when Ryder cleared his throat and I realized we were in Tyto's room. He smirked at me and made his way out of the room, leaving me with my mate unconscious on his bed.

I slowly pulled a chair beside the bed and sat down, studying my mate as I did so. Although I didn't have much time to admire him, I did have to admit that he was very handsome. I knew that from the moment I saw him but I just didn't find the time to truly admire him. His brown fluffy hair and muscles were truly attractive and Teva wagged her tail in agreement.

We definitely were given a fine specimen from the Moon Goddess.

I sighed and found myself running my fingers through his hair while he lay there on the bed until I looked down and saw that he was looking right at me with an intense emotion. 

Was that love?

I couldn't be sure but I quickly retracted my hand, suddenly feeling embarrassed that I gave into the bond, even if by a small margin.

He gave me a small smile before sitting up in the bed and grabbing my hand in his. I felt my face heat up at this and turned away from him, but he gently grabbed my chin and turned me towards him.

"Don't look away from me Calixa," he spoke, his voice sounding husky, "And you are free to touch me, my dear. I belong to you so do as you please."

I shook my head and pulled my hand away, "That meant nothing Tyto... I was just.... worried like any Alpha female would worry about her pack mates."

"Or you are giving into the bond," he teased, smirking at me.

I scoffed at him but secretly knew that he was right. I was getting more susceptible to the bond and that agitated me. I knew someday I would probably give in but I wanted more time as an independent she wolf before I was chained to Tyto's side.

'You know it won't be like that,' Teva commented, 'We would still have our freedom and independence. Tyto and Ignis know that we are strong and that he doesn't have to constantly worry about us even if he does like to be certain that we are safe.'

I didn't respond and looked at Tyto for a second before speaking, "I don't think it's a good idea to speak of the bond until your father is dealt with."

He shook his head, "Then when is a good time Calixa? I've been waiting for you to come around and now that you are finally getting closer to accepting it, you're scared and shutting me out. I just finally got you after losing my memories, gaining them back, and coming to know that my father and brother are still alive. So when is a good time? There will always be something going on in our lives but just because we must handle situations like the one we are in doesn't mean that we can't enjoy little moments. So why don't you leave Calixa? If you don't want to enjoy these free moments we have with me then go spend them by yourself. Come back when you're ready to start opening up to me, even if by a small margin."

I couldn't speak after what he said because I knew he was right and I couldn't defend my actions. I was just too stubborn to give into the bond. He has done so much for me and yet I couldn't give him even a moment of my time without shutting him out immediately.

I knew one thing was for certain.I couldn't keep pushing him away and pulling him back.

I had to choose.

A/N: Hey guys! I'm really sorry for the late chapter! This semester has been really hectic in school and it has been sapping my motivation to write. I know I'll have more time in the summer so please bear with me and in the meantime just tell me what you want to see in a book two.

These have been some of my ideas: (All of these would briefly contain both Tyto and Calixa)
-A whole new story and main character with the same packs
-Something tied to Tyto and Calixa
-A story about Ryder and finding his mate
-Instead of a sequel, a prequel; the story of how Calixa and Tyto grew up (this would probably be a shorter story)

Or anything else you guys would like! I do have a few ideas but I want to hear from you all!
