I was reading up on the law and its relationship with social media.
Apparently, if you advertise a product on Wattpad (for example), you are held responsible for misleading claims in the comments section.
So your life-long friend may jokingly comment "use the code 'JALEXANALSEX' to receive 82% off all purchases at [store]", and if somebody tries to purchase an item with that code (and obviously fail to do so), you are legally responsible.
I guess true friends really do stab you in the front...
