Chapter 3: Sorting Ceremony

But then they arrived at Hogwarts.
Harry talked with the half-giant named Hagrid like they were old friends. She entered the castle and stops on the steps. Draco walks up, places his hand into the air to shake, and recites a greeting.
"Hello. I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy. And you're Harry Potter. You shouldn't be around these two. They're not like us."
Then Ron perked up.
"Bug off Malfoy."
"And who are you. Hand-me-down robes. Red hair. You must be a Weasley. I was hoping the other two were the last of you. But I guess not. Come on Potter."
"I think I can choose my friends on my own, thank you."
Draco was furious. He looked at her and fought a smile. She couldn't help but fight one too. They entered the Great Hall and were filled with amazement. She felt a tingle in her hand then a warm sensation. She looked down and saw a hand. She followed it to the owner. Draco was staring straight ahead but there was a slight smirk. He let go of her hand just as the large group of first years lined up. The elderly witch that led them in unrolled a scroll. She began to read off names. Draco wasn't far down the list. He was put into Slytherin, just as he had predicted. She was called up. The large, tattered hat spoke. "Hmm. A brilliant mind. I knew a woman who had a mind similarly brilliant, but this was long ago. Ravenclaw may be where you belong, but I see some potential. I also see secrets, I see bravery, I see many qualities. So, I place you into, GRYFFINDOR!"
She was welcomed to the Gryffindor table with applause and hugs. She sat next to Percy and grinned from ear to ear. She scanned the Slytherin table for Draco. She saw him and expected a smirk. He wasn't smirking. He looked at her then looked away. He seemed ashamed. She stopped smiling. Harry was put in Gryffindor. So was Neville. Ron was too. They had a fabulous dinner and celebrated.
