"And don't forget to do your potions essay. It must be ready by our next lesson." Spoke Professor Snape. Hermione had finished her essay yesterday, so she was going to spend her free period with the boys helping them with their essays. Ron and Hermione had made up after he attacked Draco on the train.
She had been avoiding Draco every day since that day by the Great Hall. But she hadn't been very successful. She's had to hex him three times since then.
She was walking out of Dungeon 19 when she felt a tug on her hand. Before she could fix her grip on her wand, it was taken from her hand. She ran after the hooded figure that took it and followed him up to the Astronomy Tower.
'What a dumbarse' she thought. He was cornered in the Astronomy Tower near a floor length window.
"Give me my wand."
The hooded figure just smiled.
"Not until we talk."
She froze at the voice. She knew that voice. It was someone who had hurt her. Her eyes began to water and her cheeks were as red as her best friend's hair.
"I don't want to talk to you, Draco. Give me my wand. Now."
He pulled down his hood and smirked.
"You're smart, Granger. You know that I won't hand it over until we talk. I've been trying to talk to you for weeks. But every time I do, you hex me. My bogeys were attacking me for hours!"
Hermione smiled at this. Her best friend, Ginny, had helped her master the bat-bogey hex. She was proud of herself when she hexed Draco. But the smirk fell when she realized where she was again.
"We have nothing to talk about, Malfoy."
"Oh, but we do. Malfoy? What happened to Draco?"
"We aren't on a first name basis anymore. But please continue." She motioned to Draco and crossed her arms over her chest.
"I want to apologize, Granger. I'm sorry that I didn't tell my parents about us."
Hermione rolled her eyes.
"You don't get it, do you? I wasn't mad because you didn't tell your parents, I was mad because you were embarrassed. You were scared that I wasn't good enough! I bet you never thought about me. I was scared too! I didn't want to be left! But I wasn't embarrassed of myself because I love you. I thought I was good enough for you to not be afraid. But I guess I wasn't good enough."
He stared at Hermione. She was on the verge of tears. He knew that he needed to do something for her.
"Please forgive me, Granger. I want to make things right. What can I do to make you feel better?"
Her guard let down as she allowed the tears to fall down her red cheeks.
"I honestly don't know, Malfoy. You hurt me in ways that I don't think I can let go of quite yet."
"Can we at least be friends? Please?"
Hermione thought about this for a long time. Finally, she decided.
"I would love that," she responded.
She reached out her hand for him to shake.
"I'm glad we can be friends, Granger."
She smirked.
"Please, Draco, call me Hermione."
His smile widened as he handed over her wand. Hermione took it and pulled him into a hug. The kind of hug that friends have when they are reunited after a long time. Draco pulled from the hug and walked with Hermione to the portrait of the Fat Lady.
"I'll see you later, Draco!"
"Until then, Gra- Hermione."
