A loud clang sounded as my blade met my opponent's in the air. Suddenly the fight had become one of strength, and I could feel myself loosing the upper hand. I knew I would have to do something soon, or I would loose the match.
I kept my expression neutral, knowing that expressions could give away my next move.
Abruptly, I slid my blade out and leapt to the side as his blade came swinging down.
Taking advantage of his unsteadiness, I jumped forward and tapped my blade to his neck.
He froze, and raised his hands in defeat, "Well done, Lady Adira."
I smiled, refreshed by the thrill of sword play, "No need for formalities."
Edmund smiled back, "Very well."
He was one of the people I enjoyed sparring with. I knew my father disapproved of my practicing sword fighting because I was a princess, but I knew the importance of learning how to defend myself.
I glanced at the sun to see what time it was, "I had better get going," I told him regretfully, "thanks for the fight."
Edmund smiled, put a fist to his chest, and did a half bow, "As always, my pleasure."
I walked quickly over to my off-white horse, Ismira, and mounted her.
With one hand I waved farewell to Edmund, and with the other I held Ismira's reins and set her into a canter.
Expertly, I guided her towards the palace, hoping to get there and change my clothes before my father realized where I had been. the chances of that happening were slim, but I figured I should at least try.
I arrived at the castle soon, and the guars let me through at the gate, recognizing me. I nodded to them, and rode quickly to the stables to put Ismira back in her stall.
