Your back was resting against one of the many trees. You had your ankles crossed over each other and your hands were holding a book you had read many times before already.
Your friends had warned you not to go into the woods during the night, but they had not said anything about the day and on top of that it was still the calmest spot in town.
"What are you doing here?"
You looked up when a young man stood in front of you.
He had dark black hair and yellow flashing eyes. His white teeth seemed to blink in the sunlight, although they were a little sharper than they were supposed to be.
"I'm reading..." You swallowed and you quickly stood up while you put the book in your backpack.
"Did no one tell you to stay in town these days?" He cocked his head and he stepped closer. His claws curled themselves around your neck and he lifted you up from the ground. "It's dangerous in the woods. There might be a chance you'll never get home alive again." He grinned and his grip tightened and tightened.
You knew that it wouldn't be of much use, but you grabbed his wrist and tried to free yourself. It was as if he didn't notice how you were trying to fight him. It was as if you were nothing but an annoying little fly.
"Let her go!" Malia's voice sounded like music or poetry and if the grip around your throat wouldn't prevent you from breathing you would have sighed relieved.
"Well, well, it looks like one of your cute little friends has been keeping an eye on you." The boy put you down and turned around while you fell on the ground and your head hit the tree that had kept you company for an entire afternoon.
"Theo, (Y/N) has nothing to do with all of this. Leave (Y/N) out of this." Malia raised her eyebrows and she put her hands in her sides when Theo started walking towards them. "I'm not afraid of you." She cocked her head a little and Theo grinned.
"I know, I know..." He shrugged his shoulders. "I was just wondering how you've found her this quickly." Theo walked away and looked over his shoulder once more before he got out of sight.
"(Y/N)?" Malia walked towards you and she kneeled down in front of you. "Are you okay? Did he hurt you?"
You were a little dizzy and your head was hurting, but apart from that you were actually more than fine. "Don't worry..." You whispered. "Nothing bad has happened..." You pushed yourself up and Malia grabbed your hands as if she was afraid you would trip over your own legs.
"Good, good..." She licked her lips and she shifted her weight from one leg to the other. "Maybe you shouldn't come in the woods anymore. Especially not when no one knows you're here." She let your hands go and scratched the back of her neck.
"Sorry..." You frowned your eyebrows and stared at your feet. "How did you know I was here, actually?" You looked up again and you saw how Malia's cheeks started blushing.
"I was following you, because..." She took a deep breath and hesitated. "Because I didn't want anything to happen to you, because I like you!" She blurted out the last words and then she avoided your glance.
"Wow...I didn't know...I didn't..." You stuttered and held your breath. "Okay, well...maybe we should go for a drink or something then? I mean, you just saved my life and I kinda like you too, so..."
A smile spread across Malia's face and she wrapped her arms around your neck. "That would be amazing!"
