"You can trust me, darling. There's no one in this city who has your interests as a priority except for me..." The man in front of you pushed a plate of the cakes you liked so much towards you while he smiled, trying to get you to see his side of the story.
"I don't trust anyone..." You had learned your lesson. You had come here being slightly naive, thinking that not everyone could possibly be lying to you. They had. Most of them had, at least. All everyone was thinking about was what they wanted for themselves. It didn't care who they had to use to achieve that, they would. And now you were becoming as bad as them. You took one of the cakes. They were your favourites, after all, and you wanted them. So you should take them.
"And I most definitely not trust you. Everyone has been warning me for you since I was still a child. Why would I forget that? I'm not stupid, even when most people around here think I am."
Littlefinger smiled, that small, barely noticeable smile of him, when he noticed he couldn't pull you towards him as easily as he thought he could.
"I like you, Y/N. I like your spirit. I like the way you think, and I like the way you have managed to learn how to play the game in King's Landing as well and as fast as you have. Many who are older than you never mastered it, and they paid for it with their lives. You are still alive, and you're thriving." He broadened his smile. "Maybe we're more alike than you want to admit."
You shook your head, maybe a bit more than you should have. You didn't want to be like him. You didn't want to have to lie and sneak your way through life, using everyone you crossed paths with to reach some vague goal he never wanted to tell you, or anyone else for that matter, about.
"Never, Petyr." You barely used his first name, but it put you more or less on equal ground, and you didn't want to have him to have all the advantages anymore.
"I'm nothing like you. Unlike you, I don't need to win this game. I just want to survive long enough to go home, where I belong."
"Admirable sentiments...", he smirked, while taking a sip of the tea that he was drinking. "Stupid, naive, but admirable. Everyone here plays this game to win, my dear. You don't stand a chance when you don't. Maybe you're not as strong as I thought you was. Then again... I don't think you'll be able to leave as easily as you think." He raised his hand when you wanted to protest. "Not because I, or anyone else, will stop you. But because you'll realize this is where you belong."
Maybe he was right, but you didn't want to believe him. And you wanted to prove him wrong. You didn't belong here, you didn't want to play this game, even when you knew you were good at it. And you most definitely didn't want to be indebted to Petyr Baelish of all people, because no matter what he promised, no matter how good he talked, he was the only one profiting from that. You smiled back, an almost sickening, calcutating smile.
"You're wasting your breath here, Petyr. Maybe you could have made me believe you months ago, but not anymore. I'll manage without you."
