Part 20: Ponyboy's POV

By now it was time to sleep. Jesse and I had our pjs on and we were lying down in my bed. "Ponyboy?" She said "yeah Jasiah?" "Ponyboy, I'm scared" "I won't let them arrest you. " "no Pony, I'm not scared of getting arrested. It's just that, well, I'm going to get arrested and I might not see you again for a long time and, we haven't spent too much time together, and I want to spend more time laughing and being with you before they find me." "Well, we can't really get out of the house anymore, it's too much of a risk for you." I told her. I didn't want her to leave. She thought for a long time. "Ponyboy- you know how we promised each other never to leave each other's side?" "Yeah Jesse" "even if I get arrested, remember, I will ALWAYS stay by your side." I just looked at her and tried to smile as big as I could, which wasn't that big, because I was really worried. The next day after breakfast, Jesse wanted to go get ice cream with her, to spend more time together, so we went. I was a bit worried about her because the fuzz were still looking for her but I tried ignoring it to be with her, these are the kinds of moments I will be holding on to when everything I have is gone. We got our cones of chocolate ice cream and sat on the chairs in the ice cream shop. We were halfway finished and we saw the fuzz walk in. They went to the cashier and showed them a picture and started talking. I assumed it was about wether he had seen Jesse or not. The cashier quickly glanced at us and shook his head at the fuzz. He didn't turn us in. "Jesse, let's leave the fuzz are here looking for you" I whispered. She didn't say anything, she just quietly stood up and we slowly walked out of the door. We had to walk home since we didn't have a ride. There was a black car, and I realized it had followed us all the way home, it didn't look like a police car though, it was just plain black. We went through the door and ran to my bedroom. I held Jesse by the shoulders and looked at her. Her eyes were red and starting to water. She was crying "okay Jasiah, I'm scared too, let's hope they don't walk in, it's an undercover police car. I love you so much and I will NEVER STOP looking for you, no matter how long it takes. I hugged her and she managed to say "I love you Ponyboy, I will never forget you." "I won't ever forget you either, as long as I live....."
