Chapter 24

Lin's POV

Today Jessie and I would be going school shopping for her to get ready to go to school. The school she is going to ends in early July so she'll get a few months of school.

"Lin, do I have to go to a school?" Jessie whines.

"Yes Niñita. We've been over this, you'll get the education for theatre and music arts. That's what you want right?" I ask her.

"Yes, but, I also want to have a journalism thing put in there. I like writing."

"I see..." I start off. "I'll call the school now. See if they can change up your schedule." I say and call the school.

"Hello?" I hear the secretary say.

"Ah yes. Hi my name is Lin Manuel Miranda I'm calling about my daughter Jessie Miranda."

"Is something wrong? She doesn't start school until the end of the month."

"No, nothing is wrong but I want to add something to her studies." I explain.

"Oh sure what is it?" The lady asks me.

"Journalism. Something like creative writing." I say.

"Oh yes we'll just put that instead of gym. Have a nice day."

"You too. Bye." I hang up and tell Jessie.

"So we need a back pack, a journal, three binders, pens, pencils and a lunch box. Your mom will make you lunch." I tell Jessie when we get into Staples.

"Lin, thank you for getting me out of gym." Jessie laughs.

"Oh no problem Niñita. You'll just take it twice next year." I laugh.

"Wait what." Jessie says.

"I'm joking Niñita. Let's get this done. You go to school in a week and a half." I say.

"Ok let's get down to business then." Jessie says.

"Let's get down to business. To get school supplies." I sing.

"Please don't Lin." Jessie says embarrassed.

"Fine." I sigh. "I go to the store for more books, and pens, and so the balance shifts."

"Lin! I said no singing!"

"Yeah singing, not rapping." I say. "I'm an adult, I can do what I want to embarrass my child."

"Lin why can't I just get my school stuff in a normal way?" Jessie complains.

"Because I'm not normal, Niñita. Let's go."
