Chapter 39

Lin's POV

"Hey Dad!" Jessie walks over to me. "Toby and I won the contest!"

"Mija I know! You guys get to meet us all over again. I don't know if it's fair or not." I tell her.

"That's what I was going to ask you, maybe my whole class can meet the cast?" She asks me.

"Mija, did you promise your class that they could?" I question her and she nods. "Niñita, you can't make promises you can't keep."

"I know dad, but please. I'll do whatever you want. I'll do extra chores. Please." Jessie begs.

"I'll think about it. But did your teachers tell you that you will be writing a speech or something like that? Something like what Hamilton has done to change your life?" I ask her and she shakes her head. "I thought they were going to pull you aside and tell you. Unless they chose another student."

"That's weird. They probably chose another student." Jessie tells me.

My phone starts to ring. "Hello? Lin Manuel Miranda speaking."

"Hi Mr Miranda. Is Jessie with you?" The secretary of the school asks me.

"Uh yes. What would you like to tell her?" I ask and I put the phone on speaker.

"Oh her teacher forgot to tell her that she is to write a speech about how Hamilton has changed her life." The secretary says and Jessie looks at me.

"Is that it?" I ask.

"Yes Mr. Miranda. Have a nice day." She says and hangs up.

"Rude." I say and hang up. "Mija! You're writing the speech! Do you need help?" I ask her. "The show that your school is going to is in three weeks."

"No Lin! It needs to be a surprise! Or else it's not special." She tells me and I nod.

"Ok Mija. I'll let you do that by yourself. Do have any homework?"

"Yes but none that I need help with."

Jessie's POV

"What to write?" I ask myself looking at the blank paper in front of me.

So far I only have a few things.

How Hamilton has changed my life.

Hamilton changed my life differently than other kids, I will admit that. Knowing Lin and the cast personally is way different than just knowing them from Twitter and interviews. Lin has had a big impact. He adopted me when no one else would. He's been for me and despite our arguments I know he loves me and I love him. The cast is my family too. I haven't known them long but we're all a family in and outside of the theatre.
