Chapter 43-Coming out-

Jessie's POV

Before we left for the dinner I needed to tell Lin and Vanessa something. "Mom, Dad, I need to tell you something."

"What is it Mija?" Lin asks me, sitting down with Vanessa. "Is it Toby? He's a good kid, I will kill him if he hurts you."

"Lin, don't get worked up." Vanessa says, putting on a reassuring smile. "But it's not about Toby, right Mija?"

"No it's not, it's something else." I say.

"Oh good! I like Toby, but seriously Mija, what is it?" Lin asks me.

"I think it's my sexuality, Dad." I whisper, looking down at my arms.

"What do you mean Mija? I mean, it's okay for you to have a different sexuality than me and your mother. We still love you for you." Lin tells me putting his hand on mine.

"Mom, Dad, I think I'm-" I start when I hear a knock on the door. "I'll get it."

I get up and Lin says, "We're talking about this later."

I open the door. "Hey." Toby says. "Hi Lin. Vanessa."

"Oh yeah, um let's go to dinner." Lin says getting up and we head out the door.

Le time skip.

"Thanks for having dinner with us. It was fun." I tell Toby and he nods.

"Thanks for having me." Toby says. "I'll see you at school, and Lin, I'll see you whenever." Toby says. "Good night."

I close the door. "Okay Mija. You need to tell us what's up." Vanessa says and she and Lin sit down.

"About your sexuality." Lin adds and Vanessa slaps him. "Okay, sorry."

"I think I'm... Bi." I whisper.

"Oh Mija! I knew it!" Lin says. "How about you go to bed and we'll get ice cream tomorrow. You seem tired." I nod.

Lin's POV

Soon after Jessie went to bed, someone knocked on the door.

"I'll get it." I tell Vanessa and get off the couch. I open the door.

"Hi, are you Lin Manuel?" The man asks me.

"Uh yes, who are you?" I ask.

"I'm Walter, Jessie's step dad." Walter says.

"Leave." I say through my clenched teeth. Walter hit her. I can't let him. I'm her dad now.

"No. I want to see her." He says.

"She's sleeping. If you don't leave I will contact the authorities." Vanessa says.

"So leave." I add.

"Fine, but I'll be back." Walter says and leaves.
