Chapter 40

Lin's POV

Day of the show that Jessie's school sees. 3 weeks later

"Welcome everyone! I'm Lin, and this the Hamilton cast!" I yell into the microphone and all of the tiny teenagers yell back. "So you're all going to see the Hamilton show! But first, students Jessie Miranda, Stevey Burton, and Mya Kingsley will be reading their speeches! We'll start with Mya! Come on up!"

Le time skip after other kid's speeches because I don't want to write them.

Soon enough it's Jessie's turn. She wouldn't let anyone help or read it, not that I'm worried but I'm worried.

"Hi everyone! I'm Jessie, and I'm also Lin's daughter. The way Hamilton changed my life is different then yours. I have a family because of it. I've been in an orphanage most of my life. I was always depressed. Over 100 families. Not one adopted me. Well, until Lin adopted me. Now before you say, 'well now you get everything'. I don't. Sure, I get to be with the cast almost everyday but that's about it. That's what I get other than clothes on my back, food in my stomach, a roof over my head, and a phone. That's it. Let me tell you something, my life, no matter how similar it is, will always be different. Most of you weren't in an orphanage most of your life. Most of you aren't me. You don't get to see the cast everyday. You don't get to be the adoptive daughter of Lin Manuel Miranda. So continuing what I said, Hamilton impacted me differently then you. You found a hobby. I found a home. Along with Lin's apartment, this theatre you're sitting in, is my home. I spend most of my time here. I'm not perfect because of it. I'm proud of being able to call Lin my dad. To be loved by him, Vanessa, Seb, and the Hamilton cast. I'm happy to be me. That's how Hamilton changed my life." Jessie says her speech and everyone one applauds as she goes off stage.

"Thank you Jessie! Now in fifteen minutes you'll be seeing Hamilton!" I say and everyone starts talking to the people next to them.

I walk over to Jessie. "Hey dad!" Jessie says and hugs me.

"That was amazing Mija. So do you want to be backstage? I've talked to your teachers, they said you could. You don't have to, it's just because you've seen this so many times already." I offer her.

"Yeah, can Toby come to?" She asks me and I nod.

"Just go to my dressing room ok? I'll get changed with Daveed or Groff. I'll see ya later Mija! Love you!"

"Love you too Dad!" She yells back and I go to change into my costume.
