My name is Emma Stock and my family hated me. When I was one year old my family couldn't keep up with me so they did what anyone would do. They tried to burn the house down with me in it, but the firemen saved my life. So I am in the 9th grade, sitting in class, reading my favorite book again and again. This book knows my struggles even if it's not the same issue. All I ever want is a family or friends to love me. I am outcast, invisible girl. My orphanage doesn't even want me. Every year they have days where people can look at us, to see if they want to adopt is, while we go about our everyday lives. Today is one of those days. I sit on my bottom bunk and read the book. Then a couple comes in, one is an African-American male, and one is African-American women. They are holding hands and looking at me. I am already in high school, so there's no way they are going to pick me. I glance up at them then keep on reading.
"Hello Emma" The woman says to me. They are actually talking to me? They know my name? I put down my book and look up them. The women smiles a warm smile.
"Emma, my name is Sarah and my husbands name is Darius and we are here to adopt you!" Sarah says. She looks at me with a wide smile. For the first time in years I smile a great big smile. I see the orphanage owner standing in the doorway. She looks disgusted at the sight of us. I crawl out of my bed and stand up. Then I hug Sarah and Darius joins the hug.
"Thank you! Thank you so much!" I cry into their shirts. Then after a minute of this I pull away from the hug and turn toward the owner of the orphanage.
"I don't care if they are a different color than me! They actually care about me!" I growl at her. That's the story of how I became loved.
