Gift? More like nightmare, more like curse. I am on the run from the government along with some other Telepaths I found hiding. Together we sneak through alleys, only to stay away from the government. It's me, a young boy named Darnell, a mother who lost her children to the government named Lucy, and lastly Opal. Opal is the little girl that the government wants the most because she escaped their grasps and is now on the run with us. We communicate only by telepathy, so no one can hear us. Tonight we camp out in an abandoned house on the edge of town. I let Opal and Darnell have the bed tonight while Lucy and I sleep on the floor. Just as we settle in for bed, a noise startles us. It's the sound of the police. Lucy and I are already on our feet and moving to get a look out the window. Sure enough, we see the flying craft of the police cars. I run towards the kids, shouting at them through our heads to wake up. They do and when I tell them what's going on, they nod and get off the bed. We book it downstairs and try to get out of the house by the back door, but the second we get outside, we are trapped. Police with fancy weapons come at us from all sides. I can here their police car radio blaring to get us without us being harmed. The police don't listen and shoot a chemical at Lucy and the kids. I quickly run out of the way and so does Opal but the others are not as lucky. The police fast  on our tails as we run away from the house and into a place called the unknown. The unknown is a huge forest no one ever comes back out of, but we have no choice. We run into it and instantly we are teleported to the government base. People in all black surround us with huge guns.

"Surrender or no one gets's hurt" One of the guards with a yellow badge on declares.

Don't say anything and don't move, this is me, Rachel, Opal? What's wrong?

Opal just looks at me with wide eyes.

They shot me with a device meant to control my thoughts. Don't trust me! The venom is sinking in!!! Don't trust me!!!!

It's true they shot her with something when we didn't speak and that it completely takes over you. Opal starts to look dazed and confused. I stand up and do the only thing I can to save her. I have to sacrifice myself.

"Please, give her to the orphanage and don't make her work!!! Take me instead! Take me and let her live without fear of you!" I shout at them.

All the guards look at the man with the yellow badge, he nods and drops his gun.

This is the real Opal and I want to tell you to let me get taken too.

That's not the real Opal! That voice is deeper! All of the guards now drop their guns and make a devilish grin at me.

"There's no way to escape us anyway Rachel, if you want Opal to live then do as we say," All the guards say in unison, "Now step towards the man with the yellow badge and put out your wrist"

I do as I am told because I need to save Opal. I have to save her because she holds the secret about our world that no one else knows. The Telepaths were put in this world for a reason, but not the one the government wants us for.

We were put here to rule.
