Her father was a drug addict, her mother was always at a bar. She had to learn how to fend for herself. That's when a teacher at school noticed how skinny and frail she was. The teacher also noticed how she didn't have any friends and always had an expressionless face. The teacher sent for the counselor to talk with her and now they sit in her office.
"So," The counselor said to me, "What is your situation like at home?"
I sat there staring at her with no emotion what so ever. She will never be able to crack me. I know how to live alone and depressed and there's nothing she can do to help me. So I stay silent. She has no idea how long this has been going on. For four years I have sat in misery, working and begging for money to feed myself. Too busy on trying to live that I had no friends but plenty of time to study. So I sat quietly as the counselor awaited my response. After awhile she came over to me and held both of my hands in hers. She looked me in the eyes and I tried to look away, I really tried, but I couldn't.
"Tell me what's wrong dear, I can help you," She says softly.
That's when I lash out. I push her away from me and stand up.
"You can't help me at all! You can't get my mother sober and away from various bars! You can't get my father to stop using drugs! Hell, you'll probably put me on drugs!" I yell at her.
She takes a step back but doesn't seem affected at the least by my words.
"Actually I can do all those things for you, but first, let me call child protective services and you fed, washed, cleaned, and living with other human beings," She says lightly.
I turn to her; an expression of awe on my face.
"Food? Washing? Cleaning? Put with other human beings? That won't help my sad and hopeless brain" I stay wholeheartedly.
"Yes but it will help you become happy one day, and that's why I am here, to help kids be happy," She says and walks towards me, hands outstretched.
I run and hug her, tears sliding swiftly down my face.
"Thank you!" I choke out in between words, "Thank you......"
