They said she was a monster. They said she was creepy but I couldn't find anything wrong with her as I saw her across the hallway. She never talked to anyone and always held books in her hands. Her one distinct feature was her black cape and hood she wore everyday to school.

"She has to be hiding something!" Charlene, one of my friends, says.

"What could their to be to hide in a cape and a hood?" I ask.

Her hair is a dark, rich, black, just like the cape and hood. Her clothing the same too. I decided to find out what her deal was, why she always hid herself away from the world. She lives right next door to me, in a dreary, broken down house. I have never seen her parents, she might live alone. Her house is made of a dark substance and looks like ash and rubble. The ash filled roof threatens to cave in with every wisp of wind. I always see her in her backyard, sitting in the grass next to a weird looking box. Always reading with that dreaded hood, no matter what the weather is or the time of day. She has a fence between her backyard and mine but I easily break through it. I walk towards her with a steady pace. She doesn't seem to notice just like she doesn't notice her grass has never been cut. I move steadily through her backyard, full of weeds and vines. Two trees stand next to her, as if holding her up above the grass. I walk up to her and see the black, ash ridden box next to her. I step into her little clearing that the roots have made for her. As soon as my foot touches the bark she looks up at me. I see her eyes, all black, like an infinite abyss of darkness. I step back, her eyes still locked on me.

"Who are you?" she says in a gravelly and dead voice.

"You're next door neighbor, Prim" I say softly, "I just thought................."

"You just thought what?" She growls.

She stands up and out of thin air, a weird stick appears in her hand. She points it at me and the tip of it glows a purplish color. I stare at it, perplexed. What is it?

"I just thought you....would like some.....company" I stutter. She still holds out the glowing stick at me.

"How do I know you arnight a traitor trying to steal the box of Alzar from me!?" She yells.

"The box of what?" I ask, clearly confused.

She comes up to me and smacks me hard across the face. She wears barbaric expression. One of true anger and hatred.

"Don't play dumb with me!" She yells, "You are Cristina, the king of madges son! You have always have been jealous he intrusted me with the box instead of you! I bet you don't even have a wand privileges!"

What is happening? The box of Alzar? A madges son? Magic? Wizardry?

"I don't know who you are are or what any of this has to do with magic or a box of Alzar, magic doesn't exist! Get out of that little fantasy world of yours!" I yell back steadily, still confused at what she is saying.

The girl laughs and points the glowing stick at me. The stick begins to glow brighter and brighter with the color of purple. Then with one swift move, I am thrown back by an invisible force. My eyes, blurry with tears, see her face as I move quickly to stand up and look like it didn't hurt. Then something truly magical happens. The girl takes off her cape and hood to reveal a black pair of wings. I am stunned and terrified.

"What are you!??!?!?" I say and try to scramble backward and get out of here

"What are you!??!?!?" I say and try to scramble backward and get out of here.

Her wings then began to flap and she floats effortlessly into the air. She points the stick at me and grins.

"I am Vera of Alzar and I will protect my box!"
