Yana's POV
"Yana Choi; Top student in English, Most Improved Student," Students cheer as I walked on stage, I received three medals in total and my certificate. The photographer took a photo of the Principal and I, "Yana please stand with your year advisor and your other fellows," I was surprised with the sudden announcement.
Why did I have to stand with them?
After a few other names were called a total of 5 including myself was standing on stage with the Year Advisor. "You 5 may have no idea what is going on, but your parents know.
Congratulations, as you all got Scholarships to the university of your choice," we all looked at each other as we never expect for that to happen. The fact that the dux is not even on stage was surprising, "The reason why our school and the university of your choice has chosen you guys is because of your persistence, resilience, innovation, creativity and teamwork has impressed them and has figured that you will certainly be ones to shape your generation so as the most deserving students you guys are given the opportunity to display those beyond high school."
That baffled me; we are all eligible to succeed those expectations if they put a lot of effort or not. This is another example of putting down other students in a lowkey way, "Yana would you please like to say a few words?" The year advisor handed me the microphone, while I tried to think of something to say without looking stupid.
"Behalf of the whole year group we would like to thank all the teachers who has helped and taught us over the years. Despite of us mostly thinking if we actually need this or that in the outside world. As what our year advisor spoke, it's not us that we succeed in our school expectations but all of you as well.
We would like to thank our family and friends who has joined us today to mark a milestone in our lives, as they have guided us ever since.
Most of us were here since year 7, some joined and some left us. 6 years flew by remembering when we started high school and said that it will take a long way to senior year and graduation. But it turned out different, I would like to congratulate everyone who has received awards on our very last formal assembly together, and also to everyone in year 12," Everyone clapped and I gave the microphone back to the teacher.
"Okay students you may now take your place," We all went and stood with the rest of the seniors on stage and we all sang and cheered. Some cried, most cheered; I know that I will miss high school but this is an opportunity to now venture out as an true adult and learn more for ourselves.
We only have one more thing to do here; HSC. Most of us will be studying even more as after the break we will start. Even though we are basically working for a piece of paper with a ranking from 0.00 to 100.00 this will determine if we can do what we want in life.
