My head was spinning too much. I couldn't function, my legs stopped working as I came to a halt. My skin burned. My immediate instinct was to turn around and see if the other version of me was anywhere to be seen. Luckily, I was alone. Placing two fingers to the left of my windpipe, I searched for my heart beat, nothing. So it had worked, my plan had worked, I'd succeeded. Pain struck through my sensitive gums, I removed my fingers from my neck and placed them on my gums, massaging them hoping it would help. It didn't. I felt so confused and alone. I had no idea were to go, my head wasn't functioning and I was tired yet also adrenaline pumped after everything that had just happened.

Caroline, I needed to find her... Or Damon, Stefan... Anyone, any vampire that wasn't out to kill me. I saw a building in the distance, squinting my eyes away from the sun... The sun. That was why I was going crazy, my head was spinning and my skin was burning. Damn. I forced my legs to move towards the building as quick as I could before I burned completely, I didn't dare to look down at my hideous skin, cracks and red blistery burns were most likely to be all I'd see anyways. "Come on, Elena. Move or you're going to die." I spat, forcing my feet to move quicker. I dragged them across the ground, scuffing up the bottoms of my shoes. I needed to figure out the whole 'vampire speed' thing right now. I closed my eyes in desperation, thinking over something Stefan had said to me once.

'Just push off, you can feel yourself going fast.'

I obeyed his order, and pushed off. Suddenly, I was gliding through the wind, as fast as I could. The cold breeze sharp against my cheek bones as I raced to the building. I got inside and slammed the door behind me, falling to my knees as I felt the beautiful feeling of my skin heeling. I closed my eyes as I let another close call of death sink into myself. I opened my eyes again to notice a middle aged woman staring at me in amazement from behind the shop counter.

"You okay there darlin'?" She asked worriedly. "You need some skin cream? Medicine or something?"

"No thanks... I'm fine. Just, hungry." I struggled to say the word considering I knew I wasn't craving a sandwich. "Do you mind if I stay in here for a bit? I could sit in the back. It's just, I'm waiting for someone and It's so warm outside..." She looked at me, confused.

"Hun, you do realize it's nearly Christmas? Not exactly warm out there. Wait here, I'll get you some tablets." She walked into the back of the shop, leaving me- a part from the faint 'jingle bells' in the background- alone. I sat down on the counter and bought my knees up to my chest. I couldn't leave this shop until nightfall. I was stuck.

I started to search for my phone in my pockets, nothing. I glanced up and outside, noticing a dark rectangular block about five metres away from the door. Typical.

"Crying out loud." I growled, reaching another never ending road. What I'd do for my car right now. I wasn't even tired, just impatient. I looked around myself, trying to figure out my new location. I didn't notice it at the time but I was still walking. As soon as I realized I span around and saw the old building. Fit the description Lenny gave me. Why not?

Suddenly as I approached the old house, two cars parked outside; Stefan, Alaric, Bonnie, Jeremy and the two red heads. I received a glare from Caroline, returning it with a grin I walked over to my Brother.

"Long time no see." I grinned even wider. He didn't seem to find it amusing.

"This isn't a time for your stupid sarcasm." He spat despicably.

"That wasn't meant to b-" I tried to say. Of course, he cut me off. Typical Stefan.

"Well it was, we bought blood bags and a daylight ring with us." He replied rudely. I nodded my head and took the lead inside, one by one they all followed. The tatty, old front door was loose and half and half hidden in the overgrown bush next to the open doorway. How welcoming. I strolled inside like it was my own front door as everyone followed in a conga line Que. As a warm gesture, we were welcomed with a dead  woman spread out half way out one of the doorways.

"Witch." Bonnie immediately announced, she had this... Gift? Of telling whether someone was a witch or not. "Elena?" She suggested. If this was the doing of Elena then that would mean she was safe, alive and indoors somewhere. I shrugged and knelt down by the body, examining the wound.

"It's hard to tell." I mumbled through my teeth. "This wasn't a clean bite, a knife wound. I'm guessing it's that one over there..." I pointed in the direction of the knife. "Technically, if any other vampire was the cause of this then they would've used their teeth. Only a new vampire would use a knife because they haven't had their fangs yet. Either that or a human decided to come in an stab her. My bet is on Elena. She'll be indoors, she can't go in the sun now she's turned." I got back up onto my feet to make eye contact with my gasping crowd.

"How the hell could you tell that a knife killed her?" Stefan asked in curiosity.

"Well, it's not difficult. there aren't any bite marks, just a slightly crooked wound. Anything could've wounded her, just the fact there's a bloody knife by the staircase made me assume that was the weapon. And Elena didn't drain her of blood herself, the witch bled to death so Elena took a little blood and she is most likely still hungry so we need to find her before she hurts someone. Check all the nearby houses and buildings because she couldn't have gone far without a daylight ring. Keep an eye out for Katherine too." I stormed out of the house ignoring all of the uncomfortable stares of shock. I headed straight for the closest building, avoiding houses due to the fact I'd have to be invited in as well as Elena now, too.

Stefan's P.O.V

It was difficult to decide who should have the daylight ring with them. No one would be too far away, of course. I handed everyone a blood bag and we went off in pairs so if someone did find Elena, the other could go and find Sky who had the daylight ring. The reason we gave it to her was because or three reasons:

1) She would be less likely to question us if she had the ring instead of a blood bag.

2) To her it would just be a random ring, she'd keep it safe.

3) Knowing Katherine, she'd want the ring so that Elena would be trapped wherever she was until sundown. So Katherine would least expect it to be on an eight year old.

We had all our tactics, and all our pairs/groups planned out; Matt and Caroline, Jeremy and Tyler, Bonnie and Alaric, Me Lacey and Sky. I'd decided to put a vampire with each pair a part from Bonnie and Alaric considering one of them was a witch and the other was a vampire hunter.

Off we went, each to a separate house or building. The air was thick and cold, yet no snow or rain fell. Just sharp, harsh winds slicing into our already cold skin. I couldn't imagine how much worse it could possily be for the humans. I glanced over at Lacey, who was clinging helplessly to her little sister, both of their fiery locks flung back in straight strands that ruined their before perfect style. We were following Damon, hoping to split up into two seperate groups if Elena wasn't in what looked like a shop that Damon was storming angrily towards.
