Age Is An Important Number

Josh sat in his room with only a dim lamp to provide light.

He glanced at the digital clock on his nightstand.

11:56 P.M.

He sighed and rubbed his face in frustration.

Tomorrow was his birthday and the day he'd officially become an adult.
Initially it had excited him that he would turn eighteen, but then a cute blonde dragged him back down.

Eighteen would mean he was an adult, and that she was still a teenager, practically a child. So Josh laid back down on the floor of his room and stared up at the ceiling.

After what felt like a few minutes he glanced up at the clock once more.

11:58 P.M.

Time seemed to pass too quickly these days, and he was in no rush to grow up anymore. Most likely because he was waiting for someone to catch up.

Josh shifted to his side and felt trapped. How was it that as she got closer, he got farther?

When he heard his clock beeping rapidly he knew what it meant.

Happy birthday to me.

Josh sat up and finally crawled back to bed, defeated by his own worries.

He slammed his clock to silence and another device rang.

So Josh picked up his phone.
