Maya sulked on the couch in a tank top and sweatpants, shoving handfuls of popcorn into her mouth.
Her vacant stare was directed towards the TV as she slowly wasted her night.
It wasn't that nobody had asked her, but that's what she told Riley. It was just she didn't feel like spending a special day with someone who wasn't so special.
When a knock was heard at her door, Maya was reluctant to get up. She dragged herself to the door and pulled it open.
"Hey."
Maya looked up in surprise to see Josh standing there with a corsage in hand.
"Hey." She replied, gesturing for him to enter.
He handed the corsage to her as a perplexed look spread throughout her face.
"Shawn said you weren't going to homecoming." Josh said.
Maya buried her face in her palms and whined.
"Please don't say you have pity for me." She begged, turning off the TV.
"Not at all, I just don't think you should be alone on a special night." He told her.
Her lips quirked into a smile and she appreciated his thoughtfulness.
"Well, aren't you a gentleman?" Maya teased, plopping back onto the couch lazily.
Josh pulled her back up and held her shoulders firmly.
"Come on, don't you wanna have a little fun?" He asked, as Maya shrugged casually.
"Not really tonight." She answered, reaching for the remote. Josh snatched it up quickly before she could.
"Come on, let me take you out on a date!" He pleaded.
Maya was about to make a snide remark until she heard what he said. A date? Had he actually just asked her out on a date?
"I'm sixteen Josh." She reminded him, mostly testing his motives.
"Just one date." Josh repeated, slipping the corsage on her wrist.
