Maya was never really great with feelings. Especially feelings she understood so well that she didn't understand them.
"Peaches!" Riley screamed, poking her adorable head in the doorway of Maya's bedroom at her house.
"What!" Maya screamed back, equally as loud.
Being the strange friend she was, Riley let a grin spread across her face as she slowly walked into the room.
"Riles, spit it out." Maya told her.
"I was just on the phone with Josh, and he's been asking about you." Riley whispered, in a failed attempt to be cool and nonchalant.
Maya's heart soared and her stomach rattled. He had asked about her, for what? About what exactly had he asked?
Maya tried her hardest not to smile and instead she gritted her teeth.
"Josh who?" She lied, avoiding Riley's gaze.
She knew Maya was lying, but Maya continued to act clueless and ignorant.
"Really? You've been drooling over Josh for years, don't even try." Riley told her, wagging a contending finger in the air.
"I've matured." Maya countered. Lie.
"I've moved on!" She added. Lie.
Riley scoffed and twirled out of the room.
Maya let out an exasperated sigh, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't move on and mature.
Maybe finally admitting to herself her true feelings was being mature.
